Who did you buy the PC from? You might be able to get help online with a technician to update the drivers etc and also you can check what they have updated already.
It’s an expensive investment I would expect some help and goodwill. Worth a phone call
Can you confirm what you mean about this? I have it on Balanced in Windows but do you mean something else?
Also can I somehow see if PBO is on without going into the BIOS screen?
Actually no, it’s still 4 x 16gb but the Kingston Fury 6000Mhz
I will try and follow your other tips over the weekend - thanks for the detailed steps.
CyberpowerPC (UK). Yeah they are good on the phone or Live Chat but I think I can manage myself a bit further - especially with the help off all the knowledgable and friendly folk on this thread and forum!
I can’t speak to what @WingWarper1 meant, but the reviews I have seen have said to use balanced mode. I saw another user here say game mode was working ok as well. I think the key is not to use high performance mode because that prevents core parking and proper v-cache core utilization.
In my experience so far it’s not quite so black and white.
On my system if I have my settings at a reasonable level, say TLOD 150-200, I get better performance (3 or 4 more fps) when using Balanced power mode. It does put the cores on the second die to sleep, but if you tab out to something else it wakes them up and temporarily shifts FS onto them.
However, if I run more extreme settings, TLOD 400 etc, I find that using the high performance power plan gives slightly better total performance, again 3 or 4 fps more. In that scenario the sim will still use all of the vcache cores first, but will also use the first two cores on the second die. The other cores on the second die will still either go to sleep or run at a very low frequency. I have not done a complete stutter/smoothness comparison, but I suspect balanced will probably be a bit smoother as apparently cross die communication is pretty slow.
It’s something worth playing around with anyway and seeing what works best for you.
Finished my build yesterday, went through the appropriate steps everything from enabling PBO to Installing chipset drivers(all of them)
I’m roughly still getting the same performance as my 13700k build
I know I’m missing something crucial out of it running the same scenario as stated in my previous post
I do noticed however in Ryzen Master that the second CCD is being more used than the first one with the vcache, kinda went in and disabled the second CCD and that didn’t make the difference, game bar is updated and is being used.
So we are already seeing the confusion these duel CCD chips are bringing. The 7800X3D will be straightforward and cheaper. I think it will be worth waiting for.
There are 2 preferred Ryzen power plans. I recommend that you start with AMD Ryzen High Performance. You can always then test with the AMD Ryzen Balanced plan.
Game bar seemed to recognize it as I am using the hotkeys to enable the overlay
I did check about a couple of mins ago that ASUS released a new BIOS version today, cuz I do recall that I havent flashed that yet, hopefully a fix is in there if not I’ll try to revert it back a few versions(?)
@JreyE30 If you haven’t flashed the bios at all yet that could be the problem. Early reviewers mentioned having low performance until updated bios’ were ready in late Feb.
Very few if any AM5 motherboards on the market have shipped with the new bioses supporting the X3Ds yet.
Well this is weird. I just went in to check that and now the PC isn’t booting up at all. It worked fine after installing the AMD drivers yesterday so not sure what has changed.
Before, it was running the memory test for a while with fans going before I see the ROG logo on screen. Then a beep. Then it would boot up quickly.
This time I forgot to turn the monitor on, went out the room and when came back fans are still going full. Turning monitor on has nothing. I held power button to shut down, tried again (with monitor on) and now it’s not even getting to the post beep!!
Any ideas what I can do?
Keyboard lights are not coming on when first powered up - maybe it is not seeing the KB?
EDIT: tried the shut down and start again and got this after long time and a different short beep:
