7950x3d Benchmarks for MSFS 2020

Oh good, I shall have to test again. Maybe it depends if the rolling cache is enabled at the same time which is something I may have overlooked

I’ve only Manual Cached entire areas that I fly regularly in and it’s not a lot of work as you’re caching a whole area. It does take a while to download though, but as you say caching an entire route in High Quality would be a time consuming job. I can imagine say for instance Caching Glasgow to Cardiff would be a nightmare.

P.S I have only cached Photogrammetry areas as they are a lot of data but other areas that aren’t the data is MB not GB so my internet can handle it easily.

I plan to install 4 M2 drives. Is this a problem with AMD CPU? Currently, I have no issues with my i9 13900K, MSI Z790 Tomahawk WIFI and 4 M2 drives.

I’m not sure about rolling cache as I haven’t turned mine on. Only tested MC and got it working so didn’t want to jinx it by having both running. I figured anyway that I only fly in Photogrammetry areas at the moment it wouldn’t be any use to me as it would have to be a massive size cache to stop it overwriting itself. As for non PG areas I think Rolling Cache would be fine.

Time consuming and hardly worth the effort unless it’s PG … I tried that for the Verdon gorge and it made next to no difference. The wait was long but hardly any data got downloaded

You might want to have a quick read of the Bugs and workarounds that I came across using Manual Cache…

It might just be a glitch or something but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re going to be caching big areas.

Yep found all those glitches before … all but the cache location bit which as you mentioned later is actually possible

Sorry yeah I’ve just edited that post just now… I found out shortly after writing all of that, that you could choose dest. of the MC and wrote an edited reply further down the thread just forgot to edit the original post lol

Here’s something I gleaned from this article:

ā€œThe platform offers a total of 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes, with 16 dedicated to the video card, four for an M.2 slot, and another four for chipset connection.ā€

I think this is a function of the chipset with the 7000-series CPU’s, and not the individual board manufacturer.

I’d guess that having four M.2 would work, but only one would be accessing a full four PCI lanes. Probably not a real concern if you haven’t invested in four 4x4 drives.

I’m going to put my M.2 4x4 drive in the 1st slot that accesses the PCI 5.0 lanes, and my second drive (it’s a 4x2 from my old system, and will be my boot drive) in one of the PCI 4.0 slots.

Thanks for info.

This board sounds good and it’s from ever dependable MSI, makes me want to upgrade now. If trends have been followed PCIe5 will be theoretically twice the speed of it’s predecessor. For me it would mean an entire system swap, unobtainium for the next couple of years but still I can dream.

Not sure if you saw this previously and may be of help in choosing a motherboard.

Thx, I chose Ryzen 7 7800X3D and MSI MAG X670 TOMAHAWK WIFI that I mentioned earlier.
After over 30 years of using Intel CPUs I’m switching to AMD because I feel deceived by Intel. For two years they didn’t inform us about the oxidation issues and that’s not okay.

Amen! It’s a shame really. The i9-14900K is a monster CPU. Too bad about the inexcusable problems some of them have.

I think you’ll be very, very happy, especially (hopefully…prayerfully) come November.

I saw that thread but never looked at the sheet.

That’s a GREAT resource!

I also hope that I’ll be happy.
Friday will be my big day. intel out - ā€œthe king is dead, long live the kingā€.

I hope to finish my build by next Tuesday. I’m waiting on a part for my custom loop being delivered Friday, and I decided to buy a retail copy of Win11 Pro, which I’ll get and modify on Monday.

Then it’s:

  • Update BIOS
  • Install Windows
  • Install chipset drivers
  • Aida64 stress test and memory latency test
  • Adjust memory timings if needed
  • Install sim
  • Test sim
  • Start the really fun part (reinstalling everything else. Fortunately, my Addons_Linker folder is on a separate drive I can import.)

Fun, Fun, Fun!

I’m not purchasing a new Windows because I hope Windows will activate automatically after installation.
If Windows doesn’t activate automatically I’ll use a few tricks to resolve the issue or in worst case scenario I’ll buy a new Windows 10 Pro license

I have my reasons.

New benchmarks are showing a decent uplift in performance to zen 4 and zen 5 cpus when enabling the administrator account option through the command prompt.

My question is whether or not this will impact 3dVcache chips and what performance uplift will this bring to msfs
