7950x3d Benchmarks for MSFS 2020

Yup, thatā€™s why itā€™s better to stick with last gen X3D chips for now!

Sure, 9ā€¦X is shiny and new but itā€™s tuned for multi-threaded workloads. Gaming not so much.

Iā€™ll be waiting for Ryzen 9X3D to come out. By then the kinks should be (mostly) ironed out, and MSFS 2024 will have been released and on the market for a few months - thus weā€™ll have a good idea of how it runs on different hardware.

Donā€™t hold your breath for too long on the new x3dā€™s. So far it looks as X870 is a x670 refresh. I watched buildzoid live trying to OC ram on one of the new MBā€™s and got no further than x670. Different ram modules changed out, BIOS swaps, the works. I will most likely skip this round the way things are looking so far  AM5 board partners very much need to give us some 2 Dimm boards

ASUS has NitroPath DRAM technology on their higher end boards this year, which should help with memory overclocking. Other manufactures will likely follow suite once the patent runs out.

On the Intel side, ASUS has a 2nd GEN Apex board with two DIMM slots.

For whatever reason ASUS havenā€™t created the same for AMD, although I suspect thatā€™s because AMD doesnā€™t really benefit a whole lot from RAM speeds beyond 6000MHz due to the divider - at least not with current AM5 CPUā€™s.

Other than ASUS NitroPath, I agree that X870E is basically an X670E refresh - nothing too exciting.

As for 9000X3D, time will tell if itā€™s a banger of a CPU or not.

With the 9800X3D said to be releasing later this month, it seems we wonā€™t have long to wait. My plan for now is to wait and see how the 9950X3D shakes out next year, and maybe buy one if itā€™s worthwhile.

With my Asrock X670e Taichi running the new 1.2.02 AGESA I got DDR5-8000 working. The memory was on the X870e Taichi QVL so I took a chance since the X670e and X870e Taichiā€™s use the same bios. Worked on 1st boot with no issues and now running stable with Fclk set to 2167.

Same for me!

Donā€™t Waste $1000 on AMD for MSFS. Listened to all the Ytube reviewers, yep 7800X3D is faster than i9-13900K. LOL Here are the Real Facts, after 3 days of trying to tune 7800X3D, Asus Tuf Gaming B650-Plus, 64GB Teamgroup DDR5-6000ram, RTX 4090. VS my i7-13700K, Asus Tuf Gaming Z790 Plus, 32GB DDR4 3600 ram, RTX 3090Ti . The AMD sys is brand new, OS is new Win 10, whereas my i7 has gone through 3 processor changes and 2 motherboards on same OS win 10. the i7 system runs Triple monitor NV surround 7680x1440 where as the AMD sys is running single monitor 3440 x 1440. All graphic settings in MSFS2020 are exactly the same. Load in gate 26 KLAX, iniscene scenery (both) same time , same weather conditions etc. PMDG 737-700 stock livery, i7 sitting at gate, cockpit airplane powered, 51-52 Fps, main thread 17-19ms, gpu 12.5ms, steady fps AMD sys, same gate and time , weather etc. cockpit aircraft powered, starts at 36-37 Fps then keeps dropping, main thread starts at 30-33ms keeps dropping till it gets to high 40ā€™s and 18-20 Fps, just sitting there! CPU sits at 5041 mhz and low 40ā€™s temp, while the i7 keeps humping at 50+ FPS Main thread 17-19ms GPU 12-13ms. All the AMD huxters Lie! I have the actual data

Obviously because your setup has an issue where the fps keeps dropping until it gets very low then it must be true that everybody else who has the AMD must also have these fps drops leading to poor performance. And that every youtube channel that put effort into a/b tests must have also had this but somehow missed it?

Iā€™m sorry to hear you have this issue, but the fps is steady on my AMD 7800X3D, I am not observing this effect you describe. I donā€™t know what the fix is for your system but Iā€™m sure thereā€™s one lurking somewhere as this is not something Iā€™ve seen commonly reported.

ā€¦and the fact that you have different results than 99.99% of everyone else doesnā€™t bother you at all? First it would make me suspicious and I would look for the problem in my system and donā€™t label the rest of the world as liarsā€¦ :zipper_mouth_face:

After over 30 years of using Intel CPUs Iā€™m switching to AMD because I feel deceived by Intel. For two years they didnā€™t inform us about the oxidation issues and thatā€™s not okay.
Intel offered me a new CPU or a refund. I chose refund and returned 13900K to Intel.
My Intel gaming rig included: MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WIFI motherboard, i9 13900K CPU, DDR5 32GB RAM, RTX 4090 Gaming OC.

So, after three decades I switched to AMD, specifically MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WIFI, Ryzen 7 7800X3D and DDR5 32GB RAM, which I had left from the Intel setup. I tweaked RAM, which boosted gaming performance and added 10 extra FPS.
So far, I donā€™t regret switching to AMD.

The only thing that concerned me was the fluctuating temperature on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D but thatā€™s just how 78700X3D behaves and I no longer pay attention to it. After properly configuring BIOS, performance is similar to the Intel 13900K so if youā€™re experiencing a drop in performance, it means you havenā€™t set up the BIOS and system correctly for AMD. I repeat, these processors are similar in gaming performance.

I have a 7900X3D and when I tried this, it would park the cache cores and run the sim and everything off the frequency cores. How did you manage to keep the sim running on the cache cores with gamebar even though BIOS is set to frequency? Thanks!

I also have a 7900x3d. Just set your bios to driver and your power plan to high performance or ultimate performance and turn gamebar on. Your misc background tasks along with non-games will run on the non vcache cores and only the games will run on the vcached cores. No cores will ever get parked.

Just by changing the power plan to balanced and starting up a game will park the non vcached cores and run games and background tasks on the vcached cores. While running games non vcached cores will be unparked as needed to run apps like browsers etc.

Iā€™ll give it a go!

Hi,

Can you please explain on how to set the bios to driver?

I have looked in my bios and could not find such a setting. Maybe I just donā€™t know where to look.

Many thanks in advance!

Search on ā€œCPPCā€ in your bios and you should find it.

Hi again,

Found it thanks to the attached picture.
It is late here in Europe, but I will check the results tomorrow. :+1:

Thank you very much!

Goes without saying, but also make sure youā€™re running a recent or latest release of the AMD Chipset Driver.

  1. Check your BIOS version if itā€™s up to date
  2. Install the newest AMD Ryzen Chipset Driver
  3. Make sure Game Mode is enabled in Windows
  4. Make sure Xbox Game Bar is up to date
  5. Set CPPC to ā€˜Driverā€™ (AUTO wonā€™t work anymore) IMPORTANT! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wdQpVcL_a4&t=1101s
  6. And make sure using the ā€˜balancedā€™ energy profile with the 7950X3D.

Hi @TenPatrol ,

So I tried CPPC Dynamic Preferred Cores set to [Driver] and found absolutely no difference to when it was set to [Auto]. CPU frame times and FPS were identical in both cases.
All my chipset drivers etc. are up to date.
The reason is that the core parking was already active on my system.
Nevertheless many thanks for your suggestion!

Thank you for sharing that you havenā€™t noticed any impact on your system and CPU performance after changing the CPPC setting in BIOS to driver. Iā€™d like to clarify that it was @WingWarper1 who suggested the change, not me
