A message for developers

I have around 3TB of disk space on my PC, including 1TB on an NVMe drive, so I don’t need to rely on being online for everything.

I support the effort behind MSFS2024 and appreciate the new elements like:

  • Seasons
  • Updated graphics
  • Improved flight dynamics
  • Enhanced CPU utilization

However, I see no point in streaming all the data—it’s just asking for trouble. I’d really appreciate an option to store part of the data locally. It would also be great to have the option to remove unnecessary features like the career mode, pilot avatars, careers, and even the detailed terrain mesh outside of airports (the existing mesh was already sufficient). Additionally, the menus could be made much more ergonomic.

As for the AI ATC, I don’t need it at all—it still gives random instructions. If I ever need ATC, I can just use VATSIM.

I appreciate the effort, but I don’t want to depend on my internet connection to stream add-ons and scenery. MSFS2020 already had issues with streaming photogrammetry data. Even with my very fast internet connection, I couldn’t secure an optimal data stream from the MSFS servers.

The interface in MSFS2024 also feels poorly suited for PC users.

Yesterday, I spent about an hour trying MSFS2024. It was okay - seasons are nice, the terrain data seems updated, and the improved shadows are noticeable. But honestly, for the rest of the evening, I decided to jump into my Fenix A320 in Wizz Air livery and fly from a freeware Kutaisi airport add-on to another freeware Katowice airport add-on, while enjoying AIG AI traffic along the route.

I’ve logged over 4,000 hours in MSFS2020, spent approximately €3,000 on add-ons since its release, and paid for Game Pass every month since 2020. All I want is my simulator with the few years’ worth of add-ons and AI traffic I’ve carefully collected on my drive.

If someone prefers to stream everything, that’s perfectly fine—but I don’t see why everyone should be forced into that approach.

I would prefer 100 gb on my ssd than that…

There’s no other option than to stream the world. It’s literally petabytes.

My msfs2020 looks wonderful than that…

Legacy FS2020 way was all right. I want an option to exclude detailed terrain (like literally the ground) outside of the airport.

I have noticed that it is impossible to disable rolling cache - it must be over 1.1GB - that stuff was responsible for majority of my CTDs in early FS2020.

Yes please!

I agree also! I would like to download certain parts of the world and planes, etc so i can play and not worry about “bandwidth” issues or queuing. I like the sim and hope for the best, just please let us have it on our machines when everything dies down, we paid for it!

I do agree. Even if this is a good idea for Xbox users, or for low end PCs, I think that it should be optional to download a more complete version of the sim that allows us to play without being online.

Absolutely agree 100%. I know that servers will get fixed and things will run smoother, but the option to have some local downloaded content will allow users to play on days the servers are down, or when the game eventually goes offline, there is still the ability to play.

I agree and refuse to buy MSFS 2024 until the ablitiy to play without internet has been added

I’d also elect for thr possibility on having a larger chunk on my HD in order to avoid server issues.

Kind regards

Well I said I wont buy it and I didn’t. Turns out a friend of mine has gotten into it. So I went over to his house to try it. What an absolute nightmare trying to navigate thru all the menus just to set up a flight and fly. Un…“something”…believable, are you kidding me…like really…what a mess. I said to my freind…“Good Luck Bud”. I threw my controller across the room (I brought my own controller, Star Field themed one), and walked home. I told my buddy he can have it, I’m done with Xbox. Unbelievable :open_mouth:

The good news is that you have the option to download the content as well. Right now it’s not available but it’s coming. So if you don’t have a favorable connection to stream, you’ll be able to install everything on your PC/XBox.

That’s not entirely correct. They give you the option to download things locally once you’re in the game, which means that if you don’t have internet or the servers are as they are currently, you can’t play in any way, but if it were an external patch to the game, like the one from 2020, of course you could play regardless of the servers or the internet.

Having a way to cache a certain area and a set of airplanes you might use would be nice. Kind of like Google Maps offline where you can select an area to predownload to your phone then use it as you’re out and about even if the connection drops off.

That’s a very poor solution, but it doesn’t solve the problem at all, if you have internet, you could only download “that part” and that’s it, but if you don’t have internet you couldn’t download it at all in the first place, not to mention that the game doesn’t even let you enter without internet, with an external patch like 2020, there would be no need to download anything because you would have the entire globe at your disposal without internet, yes with a very basic but playable terrain, which is what we want.

That’s a very good point. Thanks for clarifying since having an internet connection to the servers is still key for it to work.

Clearly this game is not for people without internet access. A fact that has been advertised pretty well.

That’s not entirely true, we’ve seen people with gigabit connections where the game doesn’t load or loads with textures worse than PS1, so whose fault is it?

You’re changing the goalposts. If you can download an area then a gigabit connection is no longer necessary, you just need to wait for it to be downloaded.
