It’s been less than a month and I’m already heartily sick of the video that runs on startup (now, since Tuesday’s patch, with added stutters).
But what else could Microsobo do?
Well, here’s a suggestion. In these forums, in General Discussion, there’s a thread called ‘What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)’. It’s more or less a de facto screenshots thread. There’s also an entire section full of screenshots threads (which I confess I never noticed till I started writing this post).
Add to the top of all these screenshot threads the message ‘By posting images in this thread you grant Microsoft the non-exclusive right to use these images’.
Get together a group - moderators, volunteer moderators, players with a track record of posting excellent screenshots - to sift through the threads and pick out the best images.
Assemble these into slideshow packages and upload a new package every week. Since they’re images rather than videos it shouldn’t consume a huge amount of bandwidth.
No more video stuttering and less chance of the players getting bored or irritated, and time dragging during the loading process.
I’d really like to see this done. Though if you argue that fixing all the worst 2024 bugs should come first, I’ll try not to disagree too strenuously.
Though I don’t know that I’d want to spend my loading time looking at my own images. I have indeed been known to post screenshots to the ‘What did you do…’ thread, but I’m well aware that they’re more illustrative than artistic.
The Trailer Video can be replaced with a different one quite easily. There are already a few alternative options on flightsim.to - I’ve seen two so far. I think any video would probably work (?) - as long as you dont touch the other ones and only replace the Presskit4K one.
C:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Content\Packages\fs-base-videos\Videos .
Worth knowing. I still like my idea better, though, as it involves other people doing all the work.
Interesting that the video is called Presskit4K. Of course I’d seen it before, but the fact that they didn’t even rename it suggests that it was grabbed as another stopgap for a rushed launch.
So perhaps they will come up with something better - I do seem to remember several suggestions for that on on this very forum - eventually.
