A trip down the western side of the Americas from the very top to the very bottom

As the crow flies it’s 8444NM, in reality it’s a lot more than that!

Hello and welcome to my journey from the northern most point in the USA (PABO Point Barrow LRRS Airstrip) to the southern most point in Chile (SCGZ Guardiamarina Zanartu) in the trusty Diamond DA62.

I’ll be roughly following the western coastline south with the odd detour here & there, taking in the sights in VFR with a loose aspect to reality (no ATC, no fuel calculations, Live Weather & Live Traffic will be used).

So for those that care, strap yourselves in…..here we go!

Leg 1; PABO to PAOT

It’s dark up north, especially during the day time which technically doesn’t exist as the sun never rises above the horizon! So I made a decision to get these first legs over and done as quickly as possible by flying as far as I could, given real life time allowances and all. This flight was 1hr 48minutes and covered 305NM, considering my average VFR flights are usually an hour long this was a good first chunk to get through.

It was cold as well as dark, -23c average air temp and it remained at that as it got lighter during the….errr….night, not much to look at until I hit the mountains which was almost an actual hit as I had to climb a couple of thousand feet extra to get over them. Again I’m not taking this as a serious sim pilot, just one that is out for a challenge with my experience or lack there of, but I know my way around the G1000 & Flight Planner well enough to have an idea of what I’m doing.

So yeah a pretty boring first leg complete out of I don’t know how many…, it will get more interesting I have no doubt.

The journey has begun.
