ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue: The engines fail almost immediately after starting up and “Engine system malfunction appears”. I tried disabling “Engine stress damage” and “Automixture” in assistances but it had no effect. This happened with the default A320neo v2 at ESSA.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Happened 3 times in a row so far, starting from the same airport. Similar issue reports suggest it may be caused by specific weather conditions?
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
Start cold and dark at ESSA (current conditions: METAR ESSA 280420Z 04004KT 0150 R01L/1100U R19R/0600N R01R/1000U R19L/1600D FG VV002 05/05 Q1032 TEMPO 0300)
Push back and engine start
Both engines fail almost immediately after startup, N1 drops to 0 and “Engine system malfunction” popup appears. No engine failure indication on the ECAM however.
YOUR SETTINGS
If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

MEDIA
Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.
The issue was reproducible in the latest build 1.6.15.0, at Munich with historical weather turned on. (METAR EDDM 140650Z AUTO 02003KT 330V060 0300 R08L/0400N R08R/0500N FG VV003 06/06 Q1024 BECMG 0800). Both the default A320neo and the iniBuilds payware A350 was affected. The A350 issue has been reported to iniBuilds.
Upon messing a little in Dev Mode, I noticed in the “Wear and Tear”, the TURBINE_ENGINE counters deplete really fast. I think this is what causes the engine failures. Resetting the sliders to 100% “revives” the engines for a while. Toggling “Wear and Tear” on should therefore prevent engine failures from happening.
I have spawned at EDDM with Live Weather, started the A320 using the automatic procedure CTRL+E and no issue, have you tried that ?
I am not familiar with the manual procedure to test that way.
The current live weather did not cause any overstress damage from my tests. It was the weather from this morning when it was foggy that caused overstress damage. (notice that the METAR read 0650Z). You can check in the wear and tear debug screen in the dev mode if the engines are about to fail.
Regarding how you start up the engine, I can’t really answer to that. I always start cold and dark. Starting the A320 is very simple anyway, turn on ground power → turn on fuel pumps → turn on APU → APU bleed ON → engine mode selector to ignition → engine 2 switch on then 1.
Btw, I also heard that PMDG 777 suffers from this issue as well. It seems like it’s an Asobo system that’s causing the engines to fail.
Is it foggy? Did you set the time to 0650Z? I don’t see that. The weather seems to be an important factor here.
After starting the engines, it seems to take a few minutes sometimes for the failures to appear. In the dev mode you can see how far it is from happening. It wasn’t quite as immediate as in my initial report at ESSA. But that was more than 24 hours ago so using that weather is no longer possible.
Was able to replicate with using the historical weather at the time you’ve provided. “Engine Malfunction” error message showed up and both engines shutted down.
Don’t think it is a SU4 regression and should happen too in the live version. Moved out from Sim Update 4 Beta | MSFS 2024 .
