Hi, When instructed by ATC to maintain 160kts until 4 dme I then switch over from selected to managed
to slow the aircraft down to VAPP speed with flap full, but the aircraft accelerates / increases thrust.
Does anybody else have this issue ? Should I just keep it on selected and dial in the VAPP speed ?
Is Alpha Floor kicking in maybe? Are you actually to slow?
(a video or screenshots would be good to see, if everything is configured correctly)
Maybe your right. I will check and make sure I have Flap 3 selected at 160kts prior to selecting managed speed that may help.
Interesting. I do all my speed settings on final approach with selected speed only Will the FBW normally manage the speed automatically when on final and setting flaps?
Yepp. Try it out and stay on managed.
I try on my next flight.
Will it switch from selected to managed at 4nm final 160 kts and reduce to VAPP speed ?
You must activate Approach Phase on the MCDU
It doesn’t switch from selected to managed automatically, you have to do that.
When do you activate the approach phase 20nm before finals or start of STAR ? I believe it does this automatically if you dont activate it manually in the MCDU ?
Apologies I meant when you manually switch it from selected to managed at 4nm final.Thats were I have the issue it increase thrust / speed.
What’s your speed and flaps when doing that? APPR in MCDU activated?
Approximately 10nm before FAF I go to Approach Phase. But depends a bit if I am already at the ILS capture altitude or not. I stay in managed all the time from shortly after take off to approx 400ft before landing. No need to be in selected mode unless you want or have to.
A320 SimPilot YouTubes show the details nicely.
160 knts flaps 2 .Haven’t activated approach phase thought it done it automatically at a certain phase of the approach
It depends on the procedures you do. Sometimes it doesn’t arm automatically. So always check.
Ok thanks for that
It worked and I know now, why I didn’t used it. I missed the purple triangle at the speed indication. Thought it must be there.
Flew into Athens last night, cleared by ATC (Vatsim) high speed approach due to traffic and activated the approach phase 8nm before FAF. Flaps 1 at green dot and speed reduced perfectly to VAPP (full flaps) on approach. Thanks.
Great to hear.
Yes for high speed clearance (>250kts below transition alt) you need to go to selected speed otherwise when left in managed mode it slows down to 250kts automatically when reaching the transition altitude (mostly 10000ft, although I am not sure about Greece).
