Activating Packages takes 20+ mins on every start of the sim

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
•Yes, the sim gets stuck at the activating packages step, even after waiting 30 plus minutes there is no change.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• I have the premium deluxe, steam version. I was able to load the sim prior to the hotfix patch, and the sim ran fine at that time. I have not been able access the sim since the patch. Rebooting the computer and reinstalling MSFS 2024 did not make a difference. I am located in the US on the west coast.

I’m on the store version and it takes average of 2 minutes 30 seconds every time. My son is on steam and it takes 15-25 minutes every time. So maybe folks should indicate what platform they are on. Just in case that’s a primary issue.

Same here, 12-13 minutes every single time on a 1 gig cable connection. Tried re-installing the game to no avail. VPN makes no difference. I’m on Gamepass.

At this point I’m guessing this has to be fixed with a patch or something. Days later and exact same situation for me, 15-20 mins. The time of day does not matter, I’m on US West servers and tried at like 2 am, I do not think its any kind of load on them.

Pretty sure it needs a patch but for that someone from Microsoft Flight Simulator first has to acknowledge that there is a bug so they investigate it

Attention pilots Attention! Following the advice of a friend, loading FS2024 is correct.
1- Disconnect the PC from the internet
2- Start FS2024
3- reconnect the internet

About 3 and a half minutes and the sim is ready

As someone suggested elsewhere on the forum i tried to flush the DNS-cache… and it worked! Loadingtime went from 30-50 minutes to somewhere around the 3-4 minutemark.

-open commandpromt (windowskey + type “cmd”
-then type “ipconfig /flushdns”, then press enter.

I can confirm this has worked for us on PC (MS Store)

Wait until you get the grey ‘Constant Connection Required’ screen and then reconnect the network. In within 2-3 minutes.

To A-B test we switched back to the standard way (starting with a connection) and it slowed right down again.

Oddly the loading messages are different on the ‘offline’ attempt, with ‘VFS Activating Packages’ instead of ‘Activating Packages’.

Also noted our Xbox loading times were far faster than PC. Same network and account/settings.

This sounded really promising but unfortunately didn’t work for me. I think it’s actually slower now, haha

So im going to have to do this every time? If so thats just as annoying as waiting haha.

Perfect, from 33 minutes to …….3. Thank you zo much for this

Hello everyone.

So I just tried this (Temp Fix). It does indeed work.
So first I physically unplugged the ethernet cable from the PC. No internet connection. Loaded up MFS 2024. I got the grey screen saying needs a constant connection. Then while on that screen, I plugged in the ethernet cable. After a few seconds, the game started loading. Saying VFS activating. It SUPRINGLY worked. Maybe in about 3 minutes I was on the main menu.
So next I closed out the game, Started MFS 2024 again, slow loading again. Then I went to network properties and disabled the ethernet connection. I got the grey screen again. I then re-enabled the ethernet connection. STILL SAME SLOW LOADING. I then closed the game out completely. Then I went back into the network connections, disabled the ethernet. Then I started MFS 2024. Got the grey internet needed screen. While the game was stuck on this screen, I went back to network properties, and re-enabled the ethernet connection. Went back to the game and it WORKED AGAIN! Within maybe 3 minutes. I just wanted to let people know that you don’t have to physically remove the ethernet cable from the PC. Just to be clear, I have the MS store version installed on my PC. Don’t know if that matters or not.
TBH, this whole scenario is utter BS! Maybe now they can work on getting my content that I paid for (aviator edition) up and running. TBH, this is by far the worst I’ve ever seen a launch. I mean really Devs. This is not how MS and Asobe should be handling this! I say this after 1 week of MFS 2024 being released! Anyway, maybe this will help some people in the meantime.
