Activating Packages takes 20+ mins on every start of the sim

Didn’t work. Game just stopped with no internet message and didn’t restart once internet was enabled again. Internet has to be on before game will start properly for me.

Still needing a solution Microsoft. 10-15 minute loading time is a joke and to boot zendesk support had me delete my cloud store so now I’m back to zero with no control setups and still slow loading. Thanks a lot guys you really know how to look after your customers. Premium Deluxe both times and this is the experience I get.

I always thought FS2020 is very slow to load (and let’s be honest, it is), but it’s actually quite tolerable compared to FS2024. Less than 5 minutes with all WU’s and CU’s and a well-filled community folder compared to 12-13 minutes for vanilla FS2024. It’s just so bad. It’s the “authenticating packages” stage that takes forever. The rest loads fairly quickly.

So I’ve deleted FS2024 for now. I’m sure I’ll return when things are in better working order, but for now I just don’t have time for this BS.

Although it doesn’t take 20 minutes on my pc, I still don’t understand why we need to go through this process every time. It takes too much time, and I don’t see the point in activating packages that were already activated the previous session.

It’s not everybody by the way. Someone posted a video for me to show their sim loading before even fully completing the intro video which is just over 2 minutes in length. But there are plenty who have the slow loading and as yet still no fix from Asobo.

Yes, thankyou, this works great for me. Disconnected internet, waiting for screen, reconnected cable and bam, 1012 packages loaded in under 2 minutes, then into game around 1 minute later. Before this, it always takes 35 Minutes, but now 3 minutes. I exited the game, and tried loading again, and back to 35 Minutes again, so not sure how what you said works, but it does.

Yes, I’m aware of that.

I tried the unplug the cable thing described in an earlier post. I got to the stage where it says an internet connection is required. I plugged in the cable and indeed, it then loaded in a few minutes. Unfortunately this was in the background. I was still stuck at a grey screen saying something about failing to authorise the game license - presumably since I’m on Game Pass. Here’s the kicker: the game is loaded in the background, but the only way to get rid of this screen is to Quit to desktop. So… :man_facepalming:

But anyway, should we really have to start unplugging cables to get it to work? I think not.

Has anyone tried this on the Steam version? First, Steam displays a warning message saying that all saved data will be lost because it cannot sync with the cloud. This scares me so much that I can’t press enter (I don’t want to spend another ridiculous amount of time trying to get a helicopter license)

Yes, same error here.

And in any case we shouldn’t need to do this kind of stuff.

I’m using the Gamepass version, and this works for me, and agree, we shouldn’t have to do this, not sure why its working for some and not others.

  1. Description of the issue:
Ok, it is day three after that horrendous launch. Am I the only one still waiting up to 20mins just to get the sim started and load into the world map? I understood on day 1 that it takes time but I’m reading so many of you are in the sim in 2-3 minutes. Mine is taking forever ‘validating packages’ and ‘languages’. What is your experience? I’m on PC with a 500mbps internet connection

  2. Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? Community folder empty

1 minute 50 seconds for me.
25 seconds from free fly to flying.

Edit: I only have one scenery and 5 aircraft in my Community folder. Dunno if that has an effect.

This is definitely an issue - I thought it was server stuff but maybe it’s a bug

There’s quite a few threads on it - maybe mods can merge some posts and get more visibility here, it’s really annoying to have to wait 20 mins for the sim to start every time

The best load time I ever had was 15 minutes. On average I get 25-30 and just now I had a 50 minutes ( I killed it after 50, could not wait any longer ).
Once I load the sim, I can fly, and I see no performance issues, only on the initial load.
During the long load time CPU is very high, but disk and network utilization are incredibly low ( 2 MB/s disk activity and under 0.5 Mbps network )
Measured with very few or even with no community packages.

That’s good info and really interesting. What kind of CPU do you have? At 2MBs it sounds like it might be scanning something. It certainly does scan files so I’m wondering if it is encrypted data and maybe encrypted just a little too well and clobbering certain types of CPU!

Mine is a 14900KF and it takes me 1m 50s to get to the main screen.
I already had the strong suspicion that it isn’t network throughput performance itself so that doesn’t surprise me.

I7-13700k, 15 minutes to get into the game.

Heh, definitely not CPU then. Surely it must be some kind of server load. Though I thought they said that’s improved a lot…

I think if we knew what it was actually doing we might have some idea of the cause. “Activating” to me as a term usually implies some kind of validation or registration so I assume it’s reaching out to somewhere for checks…i also think it should only need to do it once unless content changes so it feels like it should be expected on first launch but not repeatedly after. I could be going in the wrong direction but that’s just my current hunch. Hopefully we hear something on it soon because to be honest it just even puts me off booting up the sim, I don’t want to wait 20 mins to play for 30 mins.

hey, I just had an idea and that did some magic…

I turned OFF my internet connection. Started the game, waited until I get a screen telling me that internet connection is needed. Then I turned on the Internet. I got the fastest load time ever, maybe 2-3 minutes. Could be a coincidence, but definitely try it!

UK -XBox user

Was there at 16:00 on day one and got eventually to freezing at customise identity

20/11/2024 got 1hr 40. mins flying in very disjointed blurry landscape.

Since 22/11/2024 I haven’t managed to get beyond ‘98% Loading unusually long’

Gigabit fibre connection - never dropping below 930gbits

Wired - not wireless
Rebooted router

Retry - quit restart xbox retry

Complete reset of Xbox and reinstall everything including MSFS 2020 (which works fine)

Running at 1080p

But absolutely nothing else.

3 or so days later at 7:00 UK time still getting the same intro video with that infamous deer with the ridiculous antlers!

So near and so far!!!

It’s at least 10 mins to launch and then the wait continues when you try to fly and the dreaded loading circle in the bottom right corner. Sometimes the flight loads after a few minutes of waiting other times the sim just freezes and only Ctrl-Alt-Del gets you out so you can kill the app and try all over again. This is meant to be a progression. It’s a massive backwards step. Caching is not helping either because it’s the same aircraft and airport each and every time. Patronising messages saying Happy flying don’t help.
