The MSFS2020 game has a nice feature to manually cache the photogrammetry of the selected region. For some reason, this feature is missing in the MSFS2024 game.
I believe that this feature is very useful for a large percentage of users, so I would like to see it in the new simulator. Moreover, manual caching of selected regions will reduce the load on servers.
I hope you will pay attention to this request.
Rolling cache already exists in 2024 in the same way it did before.
If you fly around same area the textures will be loaded from the cache, say you take off from London City and fly around London and back, all of that area will be cached.
Yeah, I know that. But in addition to the rolling cache, I would like to have constantly loaded sites in different parts of the world, without overwriting the cache and be able to play even in case of connection problems. Moreover, I have set the cache size to 500 gigabytes, but every time I log into the sim my most visited locations are re-loaded. I can see that the developers are trying to defeat all current problems, but still a feature like this would be useful.
Unfortunately, for technical reasons there is no possibility to run internet more than 100 mbps and in loaded regions there are noticeable drops in download speed, but if we had the opportunity to upload them before departure, albeit after spending time out of the game, we would be sooo happy.
Yes this is one of the communities biggest gripes. Storage is cheap and readily available. I get why streaming content might be good if you have a stable and consistent but not necessarily fast internet connection to download 200gb in one go but for many this isn’t a problem.
I would much prefer a larger install and avoid issues like game pausing when connection drops or textures not loading in correctly.
It would also have avoided the server issues people are still experiencing.
Yes! please add an ability to have manual caches! (and hopefully a better interface to do so than msfs2020).
Having a rolling cache doesn’t alleviate the need to have manual caches. If you’re just flying through an area and you have a slower internet connection, the rolling cache really doesn’t help you.
Especially since most everything is streamed now, I would really like to pre-load an area before I start my flight.
I have a powerful computer but a slow internet without the option to get a faster one. The game is far worse than msfs 2020 in that circumstance. The ability to cache a region might help and I don’t understand why the have it in 2020 and not in 2024. Very disappointed…
Does anyone know how to play the game when you only have a 30 megabits/sec internet?
In MSFS2020 I Manual Cached areas of my choosing all the time. It was the best option for me due my slow internet speeds. Still can’t get more then 50MB where I live. To this day I still Manual Cache all the new PG areas in World Update releases even though I’m mostly using MSFS2024 now but I use both sims to compare the differences.
The Rolling Cache works very well in MSFS2024 better then in MSFS2020 but I don’t want to set a cache size too big, I’m going with 128GB size, as people have suggested on this Forum mainly to avoid any problems. But the more Photogrammetry places I fly the more it fills up and obviously overwrites the oldest data. Just flying around L.A uses GB’s of Data and I know this from my Manual Cache sizes in MSFS2020. L.A for example is 150GB, Barcelona is 250GB, London is 250GB, so a 16GB or 128GB Rolling Cache would just not work for me.
So by having a Manual Cache I would be able to better control which areas I want to fly in. Currently for MSFS2020 I’m at 2.8TB of downloads, all of which are on my 4TB NMve drive in their own folders. So when I want to fly in a certain area I just change the Manual Cache location in the Sim and fly away. Makes life so much easier IMO.
