Hi everyone,
I am trying to configure the msfs addon linker to make some order in the mess of the community folder. However, with this addon the community folder will still have a long flat list of folders (symlinks instead of actual folders). Is there a way to change that or is that how msfs can work - only a list of folders with layout and manifest files? It looks a bit like the problem is moved from one place to another and if an addon is renamed I will need to make sure symlink is renamed too.
Hello @KindTortoise480 ,
as the issue is related to a 3rd party addon, the topic was moved to #third-party-addon-discussion:tools-utilities.
I do not think a different folder structure is possible, because that is how MSFS works, as you suggested.
If I am understanding you correctly… I believe that for the community folder you are correct. I am pretty sure that it will only function the way you describe. You cannot organize it in any way say making a folder for aircraft then sub-folders for each aircraft or making a folder for say European scenery then subfolders for countries in Europe then folders for mods for that region. I could be wrong but that’s how I understand it to work.
For my add-on linker I rename all my mod folders then organize them via region, type, ect. If I make changes I just delete all invalid links and refresh and reactivate. Sure it still makes the community folder look like a mess but I am rarely looking in there anyway. As long as my separate folders for my add-on linker are organized I am fine with it.

Using the linker means for the most part you do not need to worry about the community folder at all, yes it one big pile of mess but that is how the sim needs it. From your perspective you arrange your addons in any folder structure that makes sense to you, the linker simply adds those logical links to satisfy the sim and lets you turn on and off addons in convenient ways if you structure them well.

Exactly this. With the Addons Linker the whole idea is you never really have any reason to even look at your Community Folder. MSFS has no way to read anything that isn’t a direct child of the Community folder which is why the Addons Linker must flatten it all.
Step one, take everything OUT of your community folder and move it into your own folder.
For example, my addon folder is structured like this:
I really never bother looking over to the right pane which shows the community folder other than to check for invalid links (happens on occasion when you delete addons.)
Some other addons do live in the community folder, such as addons that refuse to install anywhere else. Other addons yet are linked to the community folder from some other location, for instance all of my Orbx addons which I manage through Orbx of course, which has its own folder.
All you really need to worry about is how YOU prefer to structure your addons which is the power the Addons Linker brings you.

Hi all,
Is it possible to have community folder/add on linked on a separate drive?
My 1TB SSD is 60% full but I have a 2tB HDD pretty much empty.
Is this possible and would it effect performance?
You can have scenery installed wherever. Add on linker can be set up to point to another drive in addition to your main drive/addon folder. Just add that drive/folder location in to add on linker in settings/options. You can link in more than one location. I currently have 2.
My only prob, was having a main SSD and a 2TB HDD, so when I add the extra folders on the HDD they are a bit slower to index than a SSD (think slower FS bootup speed). If you have dual SSDs this might not be an issue for you.
