A friend of mine today that you will need addon linker to run the new 2024 sim , any truth in that ? Louis

We don’t know much about what the requirements will be for MSFS 2024, but I highly doubt a 3rd party program will be required to run it.

There would not be any requirement to use Addon Linker for MSFS2024, just as there is no requirement to use it for MSFS.
It makes life easier, and will continue to work with MSFS2024 as we know it will use a Community Folder as well.
The developer is waiting to find out if MSFS will include a similar feature natively, or if there is still a need for his utility.

I see a lot of potential for Addon Linker for 2024 for people who want to run both sims. You could link a compatible addon to both, and a sim-specific one to just 2020 or 2024.
But your friend who claims it will be required? Don’t listen to him about anything. Ever. That’s just dumb.

Did you really think that a Billion Dollar Company like Microsoft would develop a game that only runs thanks to a 3rd party freeware tool? LOL
Cmon sense should have told you that this isnt true at all.
The tool might come in handy as in MSFS, but its by no way a requirement, obviously…

No truth in that at all, it’s more likely to be the opposite way around. FS2024 will use a “thin” (~50GB) client which in this case means more data will be offloaded into cloud services - like you won’t need to download POIs on world updates or maybe even whole airports. They chose this way as the space requirements for FS2020 were going through the roof on installing everything which is a no go especially for Xbox users.
Also Asobo is aware about the existence of Addon Linker, so they are also looking into making things more convenient. Well have to see with what they will come up in the end, however a Freeware third party tool will never become a requirement on any customer software 
Common sense is not that common as the name suggests :).

Let us know what video he has seen. He - or whoever created that video - must have misunderstood something in a biiiiiiiig way.

can only be the Expo Stream or one of the latest dev streams. Anyway, i can assure you, they have not lost a single word on AddOn linker.
I think theres a misunderstanding at your side.
What they said was, that MSFS and FS24 are separate installs, and if you want to use both, it would require quite a bit of disk space, especially with lots of AddOns in both.
Probably thats why he said “you need Addon Linker” or something in this direction, to save disk space.
And you somehow interpreted that AddOn linker is a requirement.
Idk… anyway, it is NOT a requirement, but useful for sure.

Thanks HXA , were at a point with this 2020 we don’t get updates every 2 days sort of speak so I’m not jumping into 2024 the 1 st day , gonna let the dust settle a bit and not really that sold on the linker as it didn’t really lower my start up time. And NEWS he hasn’t told me the video yet .

Read what the author says about that at flightsim.to. You can use AoL for both 2020 and 2024 at the same time if you follow his instructions.
