Addon Subscription Business Model?

This is a direct quote from the article:

You can either subscribe on a per-month basis for $5 USD, an annual subscription of $50 USD, or a one-time purchase at $120 USD.

So for a renter, if you have it more than two years, you’re throwing money out the window. If you buy it, you’re agreeing that it’s worth nearly twice as much as PMDG. Personally, I don’t see it…

That’s more than MS Office subscription for my entire family. And like you say, two PMDG planes. I also don’t see it.

this business model belongs in a dry dead cornfield

There will be takers. Patreon and other subsidy services are living and flourishing proof of that.

Wishing another dev would do a 737 classic but without the $120 outright price range or subscription flaff, honestly waiting on some good reviews of CSS 737 even before going for the subscription pricing.

this could be a win though if it’s not what you expect. $5 spent, find out you don’t like it, then unsubscribe having only spent $5 instead of $50 or $120.

If you like it then you can decide if you’ll fly it enough to justify the expense

I can’t even count how many FS2020 planes I bought outright and have never flown, or only flown a few times and abandoned for one reason or another.

Silly me.

I think a $5.00 subscription plan for what (I presume) is an in-depth, detailed, high-fidelity model is a great idea. If it disappoints, I’m out $5.00.

I have planes sitting in 24’ that I’ve flown once or twice and always seem to go back to my favorites… easily spent $120 on planes I don’t fly currently.

These models (subscription) also bank on some folks setting and forgetting.

Looking at a statement 2 years later “I’m still subscribed to that?”.

The classic subscription model… Pray they subscribe and forget

I can’t imagine paying that much for a single add on.

It is a lot considering Fenix, PMDG and Blacksquare are all under $100

how does it work when you end your subscription? in what non-invasive manner do they pull your access to the plane when you decide to stop using it?
What happens when other devs start doing this? How many subscription fees will you need to keep track of?
If I get burned on a purchase - and it does still happen even when I wait to buy something until it has been out a while and patched, and is popular with the community - I’m out a few dollars and its over and done. I’m not cancelling a subscription / relationship and having to deal with some hostage negotiator or creditcard kerfuffle - or some weird DRM software

Since the have their own installer I’d assume it may check your subscription when you launch it. And if it’s been canceled it uninstalls from your sim. Just a guess though

Or it will do a similar thing to JF’s “fail to initialise” when trying to merely copy a 2020 folder to 2024. In any event, 120 for a single plane? That’s a lot. I can’t honestly imagine it being twice as good as JF’s RJ/147/F28, Fenix, or any of the PMDG or Black Square planes.
And just as others I have many planes I don’t often fly but I haven’t paid $120 for any of them. And who’s to say this will not become one of those seldom used planes too?Definitly a hard pass for me

It’s good to see PMDG aircraft have become a monetary standard. It was a big thing on our ten-year plan.

MSFS 2024 has started to add rentals, which I think is a good idea, as a try before you buy. Having a subscription model as a permanent solution, though? No, thanks.

This leads to the next obvious question: When will we get free trials?

Right. I got a new aircraft yesterday. It cost me 0.75 PA (PMDG Aircraft).

They promised that, but as far as I know, it has not yet materialised.
