I can tell you for my part, world update germany and especially city update 1 for germany made things worse in a lot of places, especially in terrain where photogrammetry meets autogen scenery… like broken bridges, missing buildings, very weird made of stone looking crop fields etc…
I was just adding it here, was kinda not amused yesterday flying from LOWG to LMML having these popping tiles over Slovenia most of the time, then having a non fitting Mt. Vesuvius (Mt. Vesuvius doesn't fit with vincinity) and then land on malta with these ugly green tiles.
But since you asked i think my point is things like this should have got adressed long time ago, this sim is three years old now…
Can’t be that hard to hand-edit such things out instead of bringing a dune expansion pack with a fantasy aircraft kids buy and then lose interest 3 days later (sorry i want a flight sim and not a “oh this is in the movies right now and we can make big money out of that”-sim)
And even if it needed automation, then thats where the effort of the devs shoud have went instead, dont you think?
I really thought they had a more serious apporach on the term flight simulator, and I must admit that if I had read this (All that is wrong with the MSFS Flight Model (Inertia, Stalling, Pitch Authority, Trim & Sensitivity)) and all the other stuff that hasn’t been fixed or is really concering in terms of somewhat realsim since release i would have waited to buy the software (maybe for 2024 )…
I don’t regret it tho - it still is (sad but true) the best out there, because every other sim has its drawbacks and at least that one is the best looking for me, especially out of the box, which is very important for me because i don’t like addons…
I agree completely to what you wrote, I just mentioned that in my opinion it’s pointless to report every instance of the tile swapping issue because it’s literally everywhere.
My video is from the Courchevel landing challenge but it’s the same in the Notre Dame De La Salette landing challenge and in other locations in Croatia and France… and literally everywhere else when you fly at low altitude, in an area surrounding the aircraft the tiles get darker as the aircraft proceeds.
They need to find the root cause of the problem, not fix manually thousands of locations (which they would never do anyway )
if it’s in large scope, then it’s the data is faulty probably, just reports something, like the base area not exact location.
I just can’t deal with this anymore, I fly a lot of VFR and this is worse than flying over autogen. I am done with MSFS until this is fixed, also updated my steam review
I have just experienced this sudden change of ground textures at Corcheval Airport (LFLJ). When taking off in a Bell 407 from the airport I can see beautiful ground textures around me. When I am flying forward the vivid textures of the same tiles changed to dark ones. This is very immersion breaking. The texture of the same tiles is shifting below my nose! I searched and found this post. I can accept vivid OR dark textures. I can accept high resolution OR low resolution textures. But not shifting ground textures! Any solution now?
This thread never ends… it seems Asobo is not runnng any server-side process to detect when the photo terrain tiles at different LODs are so different you do NOT want to pop-in the higher resolution tile because that will cause the jarring effect that’s been recorded dozens of times on this thread. That sacrifices the higher resolution tile but that’s better than a pop-in.
Waiting for player reports is a poor technique when a server-side algorithm could easily scan the tiles and detect where there’s a huge mismatch between LODs. Corsica is a straightforward test case, although of course there are many others.
Where layer mismatches are detected (preferably by the servers, not the players) the lower resolution textures can be regenerated from the higher resolution ones, so there’s no mismatch, but in the meantime we should avoid the pop-in.
I’ve also experienced this bug. I’m currently flying along the coast of Croatia to east and it looks terrible. Random blocks terrain textures keep changing and mismatcing as the plane moves.
VFR doesn’t worth the time with this bug. It’s very conspicuous, strong and instant immersion-breaker.
Ok guys… little update.
Due to little space on my m2 ssd i had to change. Copying the sim afterwards failed. So I had to do a complete reinstall on the new m2 ssd with 2TB. (The one before was 1TB and only 2gb left)
I’m now flying over the “cursed” Croatia. Departed in LDSP. Cursing at 8000 and climbing. I have no texture issues anymore.
No tile shifting. I’m flying down to the south following the coast line no issue since 15min.
Maybe it was caused by the full drive?
maybe something was messed up, which the full reinstall solved.
Try Corsica…
Giving it a try tomorrow.
A full disk isn’t doing this. Either the area you are in isn’t affected buy this, or it was happening, and you just didn’t notice it this time.
Just advising anyone getting this issue not to do a full re-install in some vain hope of fixing this issue as it won’t work.
Just to clearify, I’m not advising someone to do a full reinstall.
I’m just saying what solved the problem for me.
I had the issue every where I was flying, near eddm, near lowi, over Croatia.
Now it’s gone! It’s not like I didn’t see it. I was looking all the way around the aircraft, different heights, different speeds, different locations!
It did not reappear!
I would be quite interested to hear what you get if you take-off from CMF2, a little grass strip in Alberta.
Could you try that one and post your result? Thank you.
Remember we are getting a World update with Croatia tomorrow. You might be seeing fixed ground tiles due to that.
I have 780GB of free space on my disk where MSFS is installed. Tiles still popping in. I have not seen them for a while because I avoid flying over Alps but saw this issue again today when landing at Bradshaw Intl (TKPK).
Short flight around CFM2…no issues.
Starting the Sim any minute. I post an update of Alberta and Corsica as soon as I flown some rounds.
CMF2 departed, climbing up to FL10, heading south, no issues. All normal no tile popping.
So, for Corsica, I still have some tile popping, but only at 3000ft and below
