Hi guys.
On PC (high spec/details below) and in VR with quest 3.
I am afraid to say, this “map issue” is dotted all around the UK. My end it has gotten better over the last 3 weeks, but it is still present. Will screenshot some today.
At the moment, i am having 4 “bug reported issues” all at once.
- Tiles popping in
- Map issues, where these squares are visible.
- Some buggy TLOD issue where distant scenes look super low res.
- Some airport runways have developed humps. Causing hopping and skipping of the AC.
I also suspect that some weird “memory management” has been implemented. Whereby, just like the Dev team announced a system whereby the ground res gets lowered if certain performance related metric is detected on your personal system, it seems that distant scenery tiles are being lowered in the same “low res” way - to give back some performance if your system is being stressed, or some metric is being detected. I say this because, from changing from my usual TAA +135, i went to nVIDIA SUPER RESOLUTION (a step down for my system visually) and some of the distant fuzzyn’ess vanished, and a bit more TLOD came back. I have had my settings in place and happily so for 6 months plus, but now the game seems to misbehave on this setting (Taa), and seems to start behaving “a little better” once downgrading to Nvidia Super res.
Bear in mind i have one of the fastest gaming specs, 78003xd/4090/32gb.
It feels like a nerf if im beng honest. However my “suspicion” is just that at this point, and I have no evidence of this yet relating to TLOD nerfs/low res downgrading. I really hope i am proven wrong. I want to be wrong in fact.
For the map issue, where huge swaths are a different map colour, go super high, like 40,000ft, you then see them in all their glory. Good news is, it seems to be resolving itself slowly. The worst offender at this time seems to be London. Take off from Heathrow, turn 180 degrees and fly towards city airport, then circle and ascend to 15,000ft, and see the monster in action. Its really bad. The higher you go, the more visible it is.
On a positive note, you know this is a bing map issue when you look at the map just before your flight loads. Zoom in and out, and you will see the bing mapping of the area. It shows the same mismatched map squares that you then encounter in game. Its clealry a bing map update, that has yet to reach the whole country or area. The tile colour change is clearly different seasons. The light map which we had before is being replaced by an improved darker season map that bing is rolling out. This aspect gives me hope, because you can guess that this will improve sometime in the near future as bing updated its imagery.
Back to TLOD issue - Heathrow is where buildings and tree TLOD is the worst. I am at 255 TLOD / 200 LOD and once taken off from Heathrow, 180 degree turn to city airport, and most of London is baron wasteland until a few miles from it. Same with reo de janero, take off, look left and right, and 40% of buildings are flat generic shapes printed on the floor, which then subtly pop up into a 3d model only when right next to it.
For the terrain popping issue, go to italy, its all over the mountains (from at least yesterday gameplay anyway).
I know these types of issues can vanish overnight, but these seem to be hanging around, and wont go. The map colour change seems to be improving, but at this time my usual enjoyment in this wonderful simulator has been heavily diminished. Please help Asobo.
Issues are on both dx11/12 and also no change from SU14 to SU15 beta.
Screenshots to follow.
