Aerobatic planes with accurate out-of-the-envelope flight model

I am adding my vote. But as an aerobatic enthusiast and Pitts S-1S owner, I can only say that no sim I’ve ever flown gets post-stall behavior even close to correct. When they do, it’s scripted.

Adding also my vote. Being not able to do snap rolls with the Extra is a shame.
@SmokinHole1 As rl aerobatics glider pilot i can recommend flying the Swift within Condor.

I remember when learning to fly in a C152…and doing wing drops…my instructor kept on insisting I had done enough of them after 5 or 6…but I thoroughly enjoyed them  :innocent:
Very poorly replicated in the sim.

Condor got me through Covid! Never tried acro though. Would flat love to fly a Swift.

Thank you for adding your vote, I’m sure if they work on it, they could suprised us..
Have you tried AEROFLY FS 2/4 , the flight model of the pitts is really good.
PS : My dream is to own in few years an S-1S

I haven’t flown Aerofly, although I have heard that it’s good. Only X-Plane and the Caranedo S-2S from at least 10 years ago. It was pretty good until you got above critical AOA, then it was just fantasy.

The Pitts really has been a dream. I have had it since 2013 and have competed with it a fair bit, but not so much since COVID. They can still be had for less than the value of the Lycoming inside. And no airplane made, not jet, acro mount or pick-your-WW2 fighter, flies as pure. It is a glorious machine. BTW, I would sooner play Mario Kart to learn how a Porsche 911 handles than play MSFS to see how a Pitts handles. Don’t even try it. It’s just stupid bad.

Added my vote as well and while i don’t have any irl flying experience, and probably will never have the chance to, i agree with the assessments made regarding stall physics etc. and honestly won’t get my hopes up high.

There never was a sim in which i could mimic what i’d see irl aerobatic pilots do, no matter how many tutorials i consumed, no matter how hard i tried and focused..

There’s surely been better and worse implementations, iirc back in IL-2 days snap rolls been quite possible, and i think with some aircraft in FSX we could pull it off as well, but generally speaking what irl pilots tell (which is also backed by video evidence) is not matching to what we see in the sim when it comes to aerobatics and certain post stall behaviors, but that’s every sim i tried as well…

I guess we need another leap or 2 in technology before we see more realistic results in that department.

I’ve been teaching myself aerobatics in the DC Stearman (with the realism mod) using this manual:
http://www.stearman-aero.com/media/text/Stearman/Aerobatic_Flying/Stearman%20Aerobatics%20-%20US%20Navy.pdf
The wingover and loop work well but following the manual for spins doesn’t give the desired result. I take it this is because of an inaccurate flight model?

Hi all,

To be quick, i was expected a lot about msfs 2024 flight model..
As real cap 10 pilote, I made a post with vote which was avalaible ibefore it got shut down by someone..
in order to improve the realistic flight model of the cap 10.
Forget the pitts, extra and all more perform aircraft, they are in galaxy far away, far away as George Lucas sayed.. .

The one, which was closest to reality was the cap 10.

I have many hours in real life, and I’m sure i’m not alone here.. How can we move the thing to have a proper realistic flight model of this aircraft ?

I’m seriously thinking making a video in real life (Pov) showing the behavior of the aircraft ..

How a simulator like AEROFLY FS is way more realistic with spins, snap rools ??

I really don’t get it ..

Still Hope it will change

I was following the topic since the beginning, I just lost hopes now… I think too few people interested in aerobatics compared to the massive amount of casual players (not even simmers) more interested in visuals and other features, to push Asobo/MS to invest into this. They did not even improve the flawed basic flight dynamics: for prop aircraft it is required some left rudder at some point during the take off run, with no wind (seriosuly?!? it is a joke?), rudder needed during landing roll to keep the plane straight (no wind, engine turned off), poor behavior in slips, in cross wind, etc etc… Let alone stalls and spins. I don’t even see discussions about it, I think the few interested people gave up. Maybe in MSFS 2028… At this point I’m using the sim to just plan and try routes, and some light instrument and procedure training (VFR pilot IRL).

we re working on an extra 330 sc for msfs 2020, flight model is one of the best at the moment .. were helped by real aerobatic 330 pilotes. theyre is still hope
we will communicate soon …

For my part i’m working on making the flight model better for the cap 10 , as i fly it in real life

One year later, have things improved? What are your current favorite aircraft, their strengths, their weaknesses?
