Apologies if I missed earlier announcements, but… seems that Aeroplane Heaven has a P-47D incoming.
Trailer here:
Features rundown here:
I’ve been looking forward to a P-47 in MSFS - had hoped that Flying Iron would bring their X-Plane version over at some point. But given their development calendar, am guessing that’s at least a year away, probably more, if, that is, they decide to work on it.
What about the qulity of the sound? Real P-47 has amazing sound especially when the turbine spins up. Does the turbine have a separate set of the sound?
I’m always willing to give them another chance. They usually indeed have great modelling and texturing for the most part (the Stratoliner looks like an intern’s job, though) and also some cool features (like being able to remove the cowling on the P-51).
I can’t speak to the flight models, although they felt decent enough, but their sound packages were always the weak point (the P-51 felt like a silent movie version, absolutely no joy without a 3rd party sound package).
Long story short : I’m itching for a P-47 and the sound package on this aircraft will be the deciding factor whether I buy it or not. The images certainly look great. Awaiting reviews.
Ah ok. Yes I’ve heard a lot of people struggle with take off. Is it genuinely broken, or just hard? I can take off the Spitfire, Hellcat, and Corsair no problem.
The only sound snippet I’ve heard was on the features video, and it was a biz buzzy. But the sim was paused, so impossible to know if it’s representative.
The price point puts it right alongside Flying Iron, so that sets the bar high.
It’ll be the weekend before I’m able to fly it, so because of that - and the price - I think I’ll hold off and wait for reactions.
If they’ve done the P-47 right, takeoff should be pretty straightforward. Because of its weight and the wide-track gear, it was said to be well-behaved on the ground, not unlike the Hellcat. Known for jet-like characteristics.
its hard as is the real one but also inconsistent ive moaned at AH who weirdly seemed unaware and they think an update broke something so hopefully an update will come, i too have no issues with any of their other planes like chippy or spit mk1 which i love . when P51 is in the air it is genuinely beautiful to fly. Sadly i wont be getting the P47 as it is just not a plane that interests me
Whoever created the trailer had way too much coffee methinks! Would have been better they slowed things down a bit to get the full benefit. Looks well modelled and textured though.
With how weak their sound skills are, I can’t imagine hiding the sounds was accidental. Funny the videos on YouTube already have the comments disabled. The modelling looks great as usual for AH. I doubt the sounds and systems are worthy of that price point.
I had been hoping FI would take on the Thunderbolt, because I know they would do her justice. I’m going to hold on this one until I see reviews and the likely needed community fixes develop.
I still haven’t bought the AH P-51, but since MS destroyed the Asobo ones and don’t care to fix them, I may have to cave and buy it.
I bought the Addon. I always give devs a 2nd, 3rd or moreth chance. But Aeroplane Heaven again disappointed me regading the sound.
Usually I dont make negative reviews about addons I dont like, I´d rather dont make a review at all, cause so much is subjective. So I really don´t do this often and I hate to do it - but this time I really really have to say - I would not recommend buying this addon.
The sound has no 3d component for me, meaning no difference in sound with distance or viewpoint (front/rear etc.). The sound samples itself seem to be not thaaaat bad, but they seem to be no P47 samples, yet I cant judge this 100%. But the name of the sound pack file suggests, it is a generic WWII fighter sound.
And I think they intentionally didnt provide aircraft sounds in their preview/promo videos and that is a real shame. If they would be more open and honest about this, I think I wouldn´t even be so negative about it.
I just made a short sample video, so you can hear yourself.
The rest of the addon is absolutely ok in my opinion, even though I just made a small testflight, due to lack of time today. I might make a longer review the next few days.
So here is the sound sample
And for people who bought it already - the guns have to be triggered with “waterrudder toggle” and the bombs only can be enabled via the options screen.
For me the sound is half the airplane, perhaps even two thirds with WW2 warbirds. Skimping out on that but asking the full (premium) price just doesn’t fly. If you deliver half a plane you also should ask half the price.
I appreciate that creating a good sound pack for nearly extinct aircraft is one hell of a job and possibly the hardest part on a project like that, but other developers seem to manage. After all, there is an excellent P-47 with great soundsl from A2A for FSX and it’s also possible to engineer synthetic soundpacks based on the type of engine etc.
I’m happy AH did this because I’m not really interested in the P47 and AH usually completely destroys the aircraft with their add-ons. Paying above $20 for an AH add-on also seems a fantasy to me.
Thank you JayDee for the review. I think this will quickly fade because of the price and the sound quality.
I am at work at the moment and thus away from my PC. So this will be short, Those eager to buy will do themselves a favor by waiting until you have had time to digest a few more reviews.
The sounds of this module are very sub-standard IMHO. After 15 minutes of the short, unrealistic, unpleasant loop, complete with unrealistic hiccups, I actually began to feel a bit sick to my stomach. There are many (too many) animations missing, missing trim functionality, strange engine performance, and visual anomalies that have already made me regret my purchase ($33 USD).
If this even is allowed to remain on my drive, I will need to alias the sounds from some more qualified offering with a P&W R2800. This one sounds like something made by Briggs & Stratten or Black & Decker. And there is plenty else wrong as well- If I have time later I will tender a more detailed report. Buy if you must, but if you are looking for something to emulate a plausible P-47 for simulation purposes, save your money… This isn’t it.
I find it perplexing that the community had to save the DC-3 yet the devs completely ignored the mod, then a user is saving the Stratodisaster and again they ignore the effort.
I don’t think a price of $33 is logical for a product that needs to be fixed by the community. Sorry if I’m wrong.
