Aerosoft Simple Traffic

My impression of Aerosoft Simple Traffic (AST) using live traffic was that it did not affect sim operations, that it only provided proper paint jobs for the FS2020 default large planes.

Before using AST, when live traffic of this type landed at KOAK and KSTS, they would disappear on the runway shortly after landing. I never saw these large planes parked at KSTS, and most of the KOAK gates were empty or occupied by small GA aircraft.

Now, after installing AST, without changing any settings, KOAK and KSTS have many large planes parked at these airports. When these large planes land, the livery matches the passenger or cargo jet company that had been speaking with the tower.

Instead of vanishing on the runway, they now contact ground to taxi, taxi, park, and shut down. At KOAK, when they park at a gate, the jetway is extended to them.

Wow, what an awesome improvement.

AST also provides a set of recorded real world flight plans (pre-covid) for MSFS to use when AI Offline is selected.

Thanks works great at last no insane noise about expedite expedite any more

Update… Microsoft is working on it.

Just purchased this recently and am really enjoying it! Mainly a GA flyer so have a question related to GA traffic.

I use MS Standard Version, the other day while doing patterns on Vatsim, an SR 22 showed up as an Airliner. I understand that’s because I don’t own the plane which comes with premium version but is there anyway for it show up as a Cessna with AST if it can’t depict it as SR22?

Also is it the same with other GA aircraft like the Twin Otter or Kodiak?

Any help will be really appreciated, thanks!

@Divij5549 I believe if you have not got the exact same model installed then it will pick a totally random replacement from those that you do have.

There’s no rules or logic, so as you say it can’t even be sure to pick a plane from the same category or type or overall size. Just random -so you could be lucky but chances are low.

Thanks for the update. I was assuming they were rejecting it from Marketplace or something at this point.

If you get a lot of “Generic” aircraft mentioned in ATC comms, you can actually re-name them by editing the aircraft.cfg file for each generic plane in your LocalCache\Packages\Official folder. Scroll down the list of aircraft to:

asobo-aircraft-generic-airliner-quadengines
asobo-aircraft-generic-airliner-twinengines
asobo-aircraft-generic-piston-multiengines
asobo-aircraft-generic-piston-singleengine
asobo-aircraft-generic-privatejet
asobo-aircraft-generic-turbo-multiengines
asobo-aircraft-generic-turbo-singleengine

You can use any name you like to replace “Generic”, but I’ve used the ‘most likely’ type based on the model appearance and/or a flyable type in the sim. Open each aircraft.cfg with Notepad and under the [GENERAL] heading, look for:

[GENERAL]
atc_type = “$$:Generic”
atc_model = “$$:”

The model name for Generic planes isn’t used by ATC, so I’ve only changed the atc_type as follows:

Airliner Quadengines: atc_type = “$$:Airbus” ← looks like an A380?

Airliner Twinengines: atc_type = “$$:Boeing” ← probably the most common twin engine airliner?

Piston Multiengines: atc_type = “$$:Beech” ← similar to the Baron in the sim?

Piston Singleengine: atc_type = “$$:Piper” ← looks like a Cherokee?

Privatejet: atc_type = “$$:Cessna” ← similar to the Citation in the sim?

Turbo Multiengines: atc_type = “$$:Beechcraft” ← similar to the King Air in the sim?

Turbo Singleengine: atc_type = “$$:Pilatus” ← looks like a PC-12?

This makes a noticeable difference in the sim and has no effect on Simple Traffic or FPS.

Great idea. Thanks.

And yet another Marketplace update without Simple Traffic.

I’m starting to think Asobo’s never going to approve this… I really would like the traffic on my Xbox as well as my PC, so I’ve been holding out, but it feels like it’s been months now since Aerosoft said they’d submitted it. :frowning:

Don’t rush into it just yet. I purchased for PC about 2 months ago. Never had so many CTDs on startup…in fact never had ANY. CTDs until AST. so uninstalled it (I have about 50 things in my Community folder) and then all back to normal.

That is weird… I do not think I have any CDT that were introduced by AST at all. I had some before, I have some now, I had some 2 days after installing SU8 without doing anything different, while it worked for 2 days without it… and of course, I also have CDT on the XBox where AST is not even installed and where it should be a lot easier for M$ and Asobo to avoid it.

Note though that I only have 3-4 items in the community folder (AST, Navigraph, Rex Accuseason)

However, mileage probably varies…

BTW I was able to fix my CDT for now by simply repairing the App with Windows… it had nothing to do with the content of my community folder.

Admittedly I did not fool around too much with the AST parameters/settings to see if that made any difference. But with CTDs occurring either on startup or right after hitting the “FLY” button, and sim load times of 5-6 min, I just didn’t have the time or patience.

I like it. But some of the AI Traffic have pink textures.

We are really sorry about this. It is just totally out of our control. We sold tens of thousands in our own store(s) and we are sure it will do fantastic on the Marketplace.

As we did not want to wait we decided to so a major update of Simple Traffic adding many more airlines and support for non-standard parking codes as used by 3rd party airports.!

Totally get this is the (insert favorite adjective) Marketplace process and not you guys. Hope they release it someday. I’m sure Xbox fliers would love the addition, and I’m sure you’d like to see the add-on in the Marketplace… Sigh.

This is exactly my problem, I tried AIG but chucked it in the bin some 15 minutes later. I’m considering Simple Traffic now. Can’t really find a list which airlines are included though… Also sometimes A320s spawn as a Beech Bonanza, wondering if that will be solved with Simple Traffic (or AIG for that matter).

Edit: I just realized that Simple Traffic uses the same (horrible) generic models, the A330 with the strange nose, etc. I saw some screenshots of A330s with AirBaltic livery and what not. Doesn’t even seem to use A320. That is a no go for me…

How much storage space do you need to get a decent selection of liveries? Roughly?

As I quickly looked at it, it required tons of space unfortunately. All depends on how much airlines you install I guess…

I’m not sure, if I just look at their website with all the typo’s everywhere I’m not getting a very good impression. There isn’t a very good description what to download (what is this traffic manager for example?), this one-click is not very one-click. It just is a pain in the behind to install.
