After playing a few hours, FPS drops from 40 to 5FPS

Same for me, reducing glass cockpit to low didnt do it

Another SOLVED post, for me at least…

I had occasional audio stutters, FPS drops during 2-3 hour long flights, but they recovered reasonably fast. What I noticed was that they usually happened when I moved my head around (use TrackIR), but then I stayed still and the sim smoothed out.

Kids and wife were out for a week so I wanted to get the saddle sore achievement. I tried three times, but after 4-5 hours I got so heavy audio stutter, slide show FPS and lag that the sim froze. At the last event, I noticed that my wireless headset device disappeared, so I went and checked the audio devices. It seems that the Nahimic device got installed with some recent device or driver update. I disabled the Nh3 Audio effects software components and Sonic Studio virtual device from the Device Manager, then disabled the Nahimic services.

After this change, I completed two 9+ hour-long flights without a glitch; no audio lag or FPS drop.

-Z.

Lucky You. I do not use Nahimic or Virtual Sound programs at all do for me it’s not issue :frowning:

This worked for me I’m pretty sure, just did a 4 hour flight after doing this and its the first time in a month I’ve had a successful long(ish) flight!

Hi all,
just wanted to give my strange personal experiance on the subject .Please note that I only did 1 long flight since I bought the sim 14 months ago.I flew from Iceland to Canada in about 10 hours flight without any kind of problems. Then I only did flights inside Europe for not more than 1.5 hrs each…never encountered the FPS problem .After having read all these posts I wanted to try a long flight again so , 2 days ago I set up a flight with a A320 Asobo from ENGM (Norway) to FAOR (South Africa)..after 3 hours I also had ,for the first time,an FPS drop to 5-6 and a great stuttering of course. I waited 10 minutes and then I gave-up hitting ESC.
I wanted to repeat the flight yesterday morning : after about 2 hours ..FPS dropped to 5 again and after 30 seconds I got a CTD…
Waited 10 minutes and relaunched the sim for doing the same flight :
everything was now good.. FPS from 29 to 30 (I have capped them at 30 in the settings) I ended the flight perfectly in South Africa after 12 h and 20 minutes!!! Not a problem was encountered (apart for the 90 knts head- wind at FL370)

Please note that I din’t make any settings change ..So what this experiance can tell me?
As someone else already stated in the forum, many problems we may encounter using the SIM ARE NOT due to our hardware capability or set-up but to others problems that are outside our home..

I had no internet problems /interruptions despite I am still running with 30 Mb ..waiting for fiber.

I really believe that many of our problems stand at the server site but how can we prove it!

Oh course they’re server issues. During the day the sim’s performance is abysmal at best, evening rolls around and boom its like a whole nother sim. From ping to overall quality of the sim. Now I know Im having network issues, but even with that it will run well at night.

Having enjoyed three days of normal sim use @ 60 fpm or thereabouts, it’s back to the slide-show again today. After 1.5 hrs approx, the sim performance degraded to 4-10 fpm until I shut it down. Disappointing but not too surprised tbh.

Yup this morning was the same here, started off and only 16 fps, last night it was at 24. Got into the air looked off into the distance and the lod was restricted to about 20 kmn or so, then it was just flat nothing. Little mountain didnt even render so it was just a flat wasteland.

And this morning my actual network connection is running pretty clean as well…

Made Yesterday evening a flight, was perfectly smooth from start to end.

If i read correctly the beta participants can’t see non Beta players and vis versa.
Does that mean there are different servers involved?
Because there are people reporting they have the same in the Beta.

Also in this thread was stated that it also appears while in the SDK.

So it probbly can’t be a server issue

Doesnt matter if Im running the Beta or the non-beta on the same machine. I dont even have the SDK so it has nothing to do with that. Ive also gotten the low bandwidth for pg message while I watching the sim pull 80 mbps with nothing else running. That right there says server problems right there since the network is pulling more then enough data…The server just cant keep up.

Night flights over 2 hours do not produce the fps drops that long daytime flights have. Is this due to less scenery complexity or due to less msfs server traffic or both? Throw in a program memory leak or two and now you have a huge testing situation

The flight I was running today was a night flight and the loss of fps started just as quickly as the daytime ones I usually do. It was over the Atlantic ocean so not much scenery being rendered as far as I know.

What type of plane. I forgot about my trans Atlantic flights. Always a degradation on the longer than two or more hours even at night.

The FBW A320. Did a westbount transatlantic flight yesterday. EINN KBOS (7.5 hrs) with no performance loss, 60+ fps over the ocean and 40-48 around Logan Airport.

Tried the return leg this morning with a dusk departure and after an hour or thereabouts, it was back to single figure fps.

I just aborted a flight I started at around 8 am this morning. It is now 10:30 and fps dropped to single figure slide show. Was flying Asobo a320 from BDL to MIA. Real weather, clear sky’s. I have updated Nvidia drivers yesterday. Also updated windows 11 to yesterday’s KB5010414 release. Sure hope they fix this in SU8

I typically don’t fly any flights that are longer than 2 hours, so haven’t noticed any huge FPS drop. But today, for the giggles of it, I planned a long flight (KCYS → PABR) just for the fun of it. Flying the FBW A320, and sure enough about half way through, FPS dropped a ton. I started out in VR, but hopped over to non-VR during the long cruise. Dropped to 15, and hanging out there. Switched back to VR, and it jumped into the high 20’s. Switched back to non-VR, and then it dropped down to 22, and is slowly sinking. Now at 17 FPS. I’d try the ole “restart explorer” trick in task manager, but I don’t want to crash the sim. I’m committed at this point!

I’ll give that a shot another time. . .but just wanted to cast my vote that this is indeed an issue for me too.

Win 10
i9-9900k
RTX 3090
32 GB
all SSDs
fast internet connection

EDIT:
And 30 minutes later, I’m back ~40 FPS.

EDIT2:
And another 30 minutes and a step climb to FL390 later, back to ~22 FPS.

EDIT 3:
A bit later, jumped back up to 30ish. But now back down to 15-20. (All between BKA J501 TED)

Hello everyone,

sorry to hear that your simulation is not working as you wish and I understand that this can bother you a lot. For my part I do not have this problem of fps drop after a certain time of flight, I fly on windows 11 with a gtx 1080, 32 gb ram, intel core i9 9900K. However I really wish to help you and help Asobo. For that I want to redo the flights where you observed drops in fps, but tell me all the details: flight plan, plane, day or night flight, networked, solo,… And I would do them all again and I will come back to you what I observed and we can find a solution together;)

I managed to land, but was in VR and not paying attention to the FPS. It may have been low, but it was flyable IMO. 16-18 at shutdown and secure.

Give it a whirl. Use the FBW A320, and use this route:

KCYS CYS J175 DBS J82 DNJ J20 SEA J502 CFQWB YYJ YZT ANN J195 BKA J501 TED J125 TKA Q6 BRW PABR

I made a whoopsie on my fuel calcs and winds aloft, so only had a measly 1780 lbs of fuel remaining. :cowboy_hat_face:

Let me know if you want any help setting that all up in the sim.

I am at a loss. Zero of the suggestions have worked and it will happen regardless of whether I am getting stream data or not. I have no idea what is causing this.

This is abysmal :(. I’m running an R5 5600X and RTX 3070 combo, playing on high (not even ultra) at 1440p and this is my performance. Very, very bad. When I started on the airport an hour ago, I’ve had 35 FPS.
