That would actually be “management aspect” because that’s what it’s for and why it’s called “Aircraft Manager”, especially with tags & favorites (grouping, filtering, multi-tagging etc). Selection is just the final action before flying, and that’s all you can do with the current “Aircraft Selection”.
You can tell I’m an engineer eh! Code doesn’t get written if you can’t specify what you’re doing well, sometimes at least anyway.
I hadn’t touched IL*2 Sturmovik for a couple of years, but now find that a recent update provides custom controls for each aircraft. So, MSFS continues to lag behind X-Plane 11/12, DCS and Sturmovik in this vital functionality.
I find quite regularly I’ll go to the world map plan out a flight, select the aircraft and start the flight and forget to set the controls profile for the aircraft I’ve selected before selecting fly, and consequently have to quit the flight and start over (I know you can pause the flight and select the control profile but I have found doing that can make the flight prone to CTDs)
An even better solution would be the option to ability to link the control profile to the aircraft via the aircraft customisation options so the selected profile is automatically applied when you fly that aircraft.
At least it provides meaning to the “check flight controls” checklist step. Several times I’ve realised from doing the flight controls check that I have heli settings in a fixed wing or vice versa. Now I’m really careful to never miss that step.
Pardon me (and please delete) if already requested in another thread, (but point me to it and show me, because I have NOT seen it upon extensively searching). but I NEED to be able to call up a “set” of flight controls and their, well, “settings” all at once, and perhaps even attach them to particular aircraft, so that it is not necessary to go to change each individual set of flight controls for each and every flight. Other sims do it, and it would just be a simple matter of a little data management programming, requiring nearly zero resources in order to implement.
Would make my life much easier, anyways. I would think others would be helped as well.
I’m just gonna plug this app again. Anyone would think I work for @Sonicviz as I keep mentioning it whenever this topic comes up, but it really is a great utility and a brilliant time saver. It also lets you tag aircraft as favourites to sort them in a list and make them easier to find or pick what you want. Brilliant tool well worth the price.
In addition, the support is exceptional. I had problems getting it to work reliably with my setup, but a very lengthy exchange of emails over a couple of days, test builds and advice and now it works superbly. Can’t imagine going back to the old way of configuring all the controllers just for a quick flight.
There are a small amount of add-ons I really think make all the difference to your experience away from the more eye catching fare, this alongside LittleNavMap and Add-ons Linker are my choice.
I have found myself with multiple control schemes covering a wide range of aircraft from small props to large jets, and everything in between. As a result, I have quite a few control schemes set to cover all the different switch and setup options. It takes some time and is frustrating to have to cycle through the modes one at a time, as I don’t always go the shortest route/can’t remember which one it was, etc.
Is it possible to create a drop down menu for selecting between various control schemes to streamline this process a bit?
It looks like they’ve begun looking into doing it in the base sim, but as I stated here when talking about the 4 main apps that let you start anywhere, we bring more to the table than just solving one problem:
Its annoying when you change planes, start flying then realise you haven’t loaded the correct profile.
Well to be frank its annoying to have to keep manually swapping between profiles everytime you change a plane anyhow.
ForderLearntoFly featured it today, here they are talking about the Aircraft Control Presets feature:
From 36:30
They talked about all the other features (some small innaccuracies though!) from 26’ if you want to see them run through the main Aircraft Manager panel.
Thanks @N6722C for kicking that off. It’s been a challenge to get streamers/youtubers to even look at it, and both these guys bought it themselves and are using it.
It’s great “Aircraft Specific Contol Profilles” has finally moved from “Under Investigation” to “planned” status, so hopefully we’ll see it sometime - unless they defer it to what looks like the new UI system development.
Plus they will also have to fix the bug with duplicate controllers not being recognised properly.
As I mentioned here though, talking about the four apps - including my Location Manager - which let you start cold anywhere, our addons bring more to the user experience table than a single feature, no matter how useful that may be: Today's Dev Q&A - Cold and Dark Starts in the Water....? - #16 by Sonicviz
I have to keep saying that because it’s my response to “#ThingsThatShouldBeDefaultInTheSim”.
Lots of things should be in the sim, but they’re not…yet.
Following thread with much interest. Somewhere I saw reference to loading a saved profile. How is this done? I am able to create or copy and rename profiles but don’t see anywhere it allows me to select and load any saved profiles by name, when I want to use it.
By “profile” I mean a group of different settings, such as axis sensitivity or a button assignment, that are used with the same physical controllers but need to be different depending on the aircraft.
