Aircrafts from SAGQ : Canadair CL-215T and Canso PBY-5A

PBY is a very nice plane. Looking forward to using it more in the future!

Too bad you can’t download the plane on french vfr site. it has a link, that leads to a log in box, and just keeps recycling. Love that plane. Anyone know where else I could get it? Figured it out, its a work in progress, but love the Cat!

You have to log in. Keeps away spam, but he gives the log in on a forum post somewhere. I found it earlier very quickly with Google. In my opinion it’s not much worth flying atm though. Waiting for some updates.

Make sure you’re not using Google translate, etc. which screws up the password.

Use the button to switch the site to English and follow the directions (and maybe turn off pop-up blockers on the site) and the downloads work fine.

I’m flying regulary with [Canso PBY-5A]. A really pleasant plane to fly. No bugs. I still haven’t mastered scooping.

When I tried it the most obvious bug was the left engine sound came from the right and right from left. Noticed it immediately on starting the engines. I think that’s about as far as I got, although the textures were pretty dated and unappealing imo. I know it’s a conversion, but that sound bug made it unworkable for me.

Yes L/R engine managment is bit strange  Although engines can be started in any direction, this will not affect the reality of PBY and alternator management.

You’ve also issue with Temp of engines (always near red zone despite engines hoods opened).

Yes some textures need to be updated  but you’ve a cat as copilot  Engines sound is strange at starting but after both engines started and after 3 or 4 hours of fly no more a problem. Anoying during 1 engine fly.

Hi,

As for the so-called download problems, this is the third time that it is mentioned on this topic so reread above and you will have the answers I made during the first question on the subject :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

There are no sound bugs, just users who do not read the documentation that the authors are trying to write.

Although engines can be started in any direction”: NO.
The engine management is done as on the real plane (in accordance with the official flight manuals) so if you have several throttles, the right one is for the right engine and the left one for the left engine (docs + screenshots in the Documentations directory).

On this plane, it is the right engine that is started first because it is the only one with an element that the other does not have and which is essential for starting (I do not remember any more if it is a hydraulic or electric pump).
If you have already assigned your joysticks for multi-engine aircraft, it is almost certain that the assignment is reversed because by convention the engines under FSX are named 1,2,3,4 from the left.
Besides for the next version, I will disable the CTRL+E so there will be no more problems

Read the documentation: this can be used instead of writing that there are bugs :sunglasses:

Some fair points. It’s been so long that I can’t remember for sure what it was I did. Back in those days I want to say I’d have used Ctrl + E. And I think even after the engines were running, as I turned my head in the cockpit (I fly in VR) the left/right was reversed, but it’s possible I’m remembering it poorly.

Are any Black Cats US Navy liveries coming?

Not to my knowledge, maybe on Jankees’ side.
The Black Cats were PBYs equipped with a front turret and I did not plan to integrate one: my project is strictly based on civil aircraft.

As a big time fan of the Catalina I was excited when I found this. Inclusion of the US Navy liveries is great. I have to admit, seeing a modern styled GPS in there is a nice touch, adds some options.

The autopilot does seem a little incomplete, though? I didn’t see a way to set altitude, only heading?

Having not used my PBY for almost a year (I am working on another addon for Golden Age Simulations), from memory I believe that the auto pilot used is the basic one so it works neither better nor less biuen than the one proposed by default.

Love your GAS Stearman work, but am far more into the Canso/Catalina… Any chance GAS would be interested in releasing an enhanced version of your Canso as payware for MSFS2024? Then we could have the best of all worlds! You getting paid for your hard work, and we’d get a finished/enhanced Canso!

Hello,

Let’s be clear about this: in 2013 I accepted the Blender sources of this PBY from Hydro’Z (Olivier FAIVRE) its original designer for X-Plane 9. By accepting these sources to carry it on FSX and then on other simulators, I accepted that it would be kept as freeware. It is therefore out of the question that this PBY turns into any payware. When I sign a deal, I try to hold it in time :sunglasses:

Regarding my current projects because I have several, I would like to finish them all but the days are only 24 hours and I already work about 5 hours a day regularly. I’m retired and I don’t want to kill myself for a hobby.
To be able to work more efficiently on my current projects, I even gave up my administrative tasks on the forum that I frequent for more than 16 years: http://www.pilot-virtuel.com

As I have already said, the current work on the Super Stearman concerns a port of my old Damage Mod (delivered with the TiBush in 2013) on MSFS. This Damage Mod has been ported to MSFS and developed on the Super Stearman: at present it works very well.

I also wanted to wear this Damage Mod on the Canso. The validation of my work of the last 3 months reassures me that the Canso should accept this Damage Mod without too many problems. Therefore, work on one plane will also benefit others, so it will also work for Canso right now.

Moreover I am developing a graphical interface to manage this Damage Mod (2D panels no longer exist under MSFS). This interface based on HTML5/CSS3 and Javascript forced me to dive back into these programming languages and upgrade what also takes time.
The advantage of developing such an interface will allow me to adapt it quite nicely on all my projects.

For the details on the Damage Mod/Graphical interface, here is a discussion on FSDevelopper which condenses my last work, started more than a year ago:

All these developments take time and I usually work alone so … I ask you to be patient.
If Microsoft/Asobo had completed their SDK as they promised, my work would probably be faster but it is as always reverse engeéniering to understand, assimilate and use the tools/ techniques underlying their simulator.

LaGaffe, thanks for sharing all of that background! Really excited to see the damage mod in action.

Didn’t mean to imply any pressure at all! I, like so many here, really enjoy your work, and are excited for what you deliver whenever it happens! We certainly appreciate you devoting so much time during your retirement to creating awesome stuff for the community and for GAS!

My answer may be interpreted as a bit brutal, sorry but I have always presented the PBY as a source-based freeware that was entrusted to me in 2013 and I absolutely do not want to benefit from the work of others. I have been working on this plane for almost 10 years, which is the favorite plane of one of my Quebec friends, and I intend to give him the gift of a completely finished plane as soon as possible.

The Cessna Tibush was also a port made from Francois Guidée’s FS2004 sources and despite the success of this aircraft on FSX/ P3D (more than 13,000 downloads for the 150 L version and 10,000 for the TiBush) it has always remained freeware to fulfill my commitment to F Guidée.

Hello,

For those who want news, yesterday I managed to run my new interface to pre-fly and check the essential points.

Of course other developers had managed to do this but … on a tablet available only in the cockpit which requires to make additional manipulations to return from the outside of the plane to the cockpit and tick the next phase.

As for me, my interface (which should be easily modular) is available via the Toolbar and remains permanently on the screen, which avoids these additional manipulations.
Icing on the cake I integrated an additional point to click in order to return to the cokcpit and continue the procedures.

Some details should be updated by it is functionnal !

Of course, this interface is currently available for the current Super Stearman (work in progress) but I will particularize it very quickly for the Ménestrel and the Canso PBY-5A to which I would add the “Damage Mod” reviewed and corrected.

Good morning,

For those who would like to download the Canso PBY-5 or the Menestrel HN-433, unfortunately following the outage on July 19 the server that hosted frenchvfr.free.fr seems to have problems.

I have opened a support ticket with the provider to get my server and site back up but since it is free hosting, this may take some time.

Thank you for your understanding
