Hey all,
This seems to have started sometime after sim update #3 and the new patch didn’t seem to fix it. So at random times during a flight the wind speed/direction instantly changes and my airspeed either increases or decreases instantly by about 50-100kts. Seems to only happen with live weather enabled. I was approaching St. Maarten in a stable landing config for an RNAV approach at around 115kts, then all of a sudden I hear the stall warning, look down and I was at 90 kts without touching the throttle. So basically I dropped like a rock before I could recover and my flight was ruined about 3 miles from the runway.
Has anyone else been having this issue? I’m flying the CJ4 and my approach and landing procedures are no different than they’ve ever been, but this is always happening now. Also wondering if any corruption in the sim could cause this. Shortly after sim update #3 I had to do a force quit on the sim because it froze up on a loading screen. Really would like to avoid re-installing this thing. Thanks!
I normally only see these sudden shifts in the winds aloft on a long cruise. Think there’s less data or less zones maybe calculated there.
Never had it on lower altitudes myself.
true, but then IRL pilots could have flown hundreds or even thousands of flights without it happening, then one day it dose happen and they crash, because it dose happen, which is why it has a name and is a threat to aircraft especially when they don’t have altitude to play with, are in a zone you may expect it to happen, and are clearly being complacent.
you were over ocean nearing coastline you should be expecting and anticipating potential sudden wind change, due to the disturbance landmass can notionally create.
Ok, so a clean reinstall seems to have fixed the issue. Flew in the same areas and conditions where I had the weird airspeed spikes and drops, and all good now. Something definitely got corrupted when I had to do the force quit on the sim a couple of weeks ago.
I doubt it’s the sim trying to depict wind shear, and probably not a corruption on your end.
I think it’s more likely that the Live Weather data was simply missing for the grid cell you’re flying through. As in, you instantly went from live winds, to no winds, or vice versa. And reinstalling the simulator might not have fixed it, but the downloaded weather simply changed by the time you did that.
I’ve had this happen a couple times while in cruise, fortunately not when I was on short final.
