Alt + Tab / Minimizing MSFS2020 results in "Not Responding" state in task manager

Hello,

I’ve tried to search for this but have come up empty. I also hope this is the right place to post this question.

Starting I don’t know when (post SU9?), I’m no longer able to alt+tab or minimize my game mid-flight without the game freezing with audio still playing and FlightSimulator.exe is Not Responding in task manager. I have the same issue on the main menu screen as well.

I run the game in Full Screen display mode.

I can actually minimize and use a web browser (looking up chart info), but it seems like opening new tabs or loading pages makes the game hang. The time it takes can vary from seconds to a few minutes.

I still need to experiment because I do think I had success in the game not freezing when I had a secondary monitor connected to my PC.

Also - I can hit alt+enter to put the game into Windowed mode with the white top screen menu bar and borders and do as I please.

Example: I will be flying, want to look up ILS information for a particular airport/runway, minimize to Edge and start Googling. It’s hit or miss on when the hang happens, but it can be reproduced each attempt. I’m free of issues if I can remember to alt+enter though.

But that’s what brings me here - how come I see so many people alt tabbing for chart info in a browser/picture files in their streams/recordings and they have no issues?

I have completely reinstalled the game cleanly from having SU9>SU10 beta issues that I couldn’t repair. But this issue precedes that.

I see other similar topics, but none sound like my exact issue - fullscreen alt+tabbing causes the game to hang and stop.

My chart lookup solution seems silly - purchase a Navigraph sub so I can get chart info from the GTN750 taking the need out to minimize the game. But then there’s cool stuff like VFRMap I won’t be able to use.

Y’all let me know what you think!

a guess… we have some users which report about issues with some versions of browsers.

One example related to that EDGE thing:

but there are other topics ( rare, but they exist , e.g. ).

May be you can try to disable hardware acceleration in browser settings, and use up2date nvidia drivers.

Thanks Micha, I’ll try it. Sure enough, HAG was enabled in Edge for me. I turned it off and have the latest Nvidia drivers.

Test complete. HAG turned off in Edge, FlightSim.exe went into not responding when I opened a new tab.
