AMD 5800X3D performance

Strong chance you will see improvements from a 5800X3D upgrade then. Good luck!

I think that it is the “best” upgrade whit am4 socket… dont change it for a few years!

It’s not just about fps, frame consistency and smoothness is also essential. The 5800X3D, gives me this in spades, I can be at EGCC using Maccosim and maintain a locked 35fps from pushback to departure and all the way through to the “glowsticks”, even with FSLTL injected. She will do a lot more than 35, sure, but I’ll take smoothness over an unstable 70fps. I was blown away going from an R5 3600. Just make sure your cooler is up to task.

They should reduce prices on Zen 4 to remain competitive, as AM5 adoption is still very expensive. Some mid-range AM5 motherboards MSRP for >$500. I don’t expect Raptor Lake to sell like hot cakes either in this current PC “slump,” but Intel being cheaper with generally better performance is problematic for Zen 4.

So I’ve upgraded to the 5800X3D.

I landed in SFO yesterday on my previous 3900X and it was not great. I do have my settings on high though and only running a 2080ti and 32GB of 3000mhz RAM.

So, other than sticking the 5800X3D in, adding some paste, and enabling XMP, is there anything else I should be aware of, or be doing, to get the most out of the CPU?

It’s water-cooled so running at a maximum (so far after departing SFO) of 52c.

I noted 25-33FPS when taxiing around SFO which I imagine, given there’s a tonne of aircraft in the area, isn’t terrible.

What screen resolution?

49" 32:9 at 5120 x 1440

Sounds like you could be GPU limited. What does Developer Mode FPS view tell you?

Main thread since I started the sim in fairness.

Mostly in red until i was clear of the SFO area and green ever since

is my 3000mhz Ram anything to do with it?

I don’t think 3000MHz RAM would cause that much of a performance hit. Is there a newer BIOS for your motherboard that perhaps better supports the 5800X3D?

There is actually, I just need to get around to getting a flash drive to sort it.

I tried 2 methods to update it. AI suite, which attempts to, but restarts the machine to nothing. It forces me to turn the thing off by the button

And through the BIOS using the network.

The latter worked but it wasn’t the newest BIOS. Still like 2020.

My latest BIOS on ASUS is only May 2022

Strange BIOS update experience! Nonetheless, I suggest you get the BIOS update sorted before worrying about any other component.

Once I land in KSEA, I’ll try and install the BIOS again through the software in windows.

I’m likely the only person who doesn’t own a USB drive!

Managed to update my BIOS to an April 2022 version. Just started up at KSEA with FSLTL traffic injected via PSXT and was getting 35-50 FPS. Live weather which was fairly heavy stuff.

I’d imagine this is the best i can squeeze from it for now

That’s great to hear. Enjoy!

I’m running an RTX 3080ti with a 5800X with VR. On TAA I typically see 30-35 fps in those conditions. But for some reason my performance is similar in complex areas to the basic airports.

Pretty much, yes. Yeah the latest bios, April 22 I think, lists a specific X3D performance improvement. Also, don’t be tempted to activate Asus Performance Enhancement unless want to save gas and heat your home, it’ll do nothing for performance though.

There are rumours floating about the net about AMD experimenting with much higher clockspeeds for the 5800X3D, coming through a bios tweak.

I’ve always steared away from OC stuff as despite being quite tech savvy, I’d be the one to mess something up. Am I right in thinking, out of the box it should boost to the higher core speed, without me having to mess with anything?

All I have done since updating the BIOS to the April 22 update is activate the D.O.C.P profile so that my RAM runs at its correct speed

It’ll vary boost to about 4450mhz as it doesn’t support PBO due to the fragile nature of the cache memory and heat transfer. It’s ability to get to that speed relies on good cooling. Memory OC is fine, Ive got mine running on 3200mhz and had no stability issues.

The Fenix A320 is where you’ll really notice a difference (if you have it), this CPU is like, (whatever dude).

Hi,

I have a question.

I switched from AMD 5800x to AMD 5800x3D.

First question:
Is a new Windows installation recommended when replacing the CPU?

Somehow I have the feeling that I have the same FPS as 5800x

Resolution is 3840x1200

I do not know if the cache is used if Windows 11 has not been reinstalled.

That’s why my questions, who made the upgrade… Have you reinstalled Windows?

Thanks
