AMD 5800X3D performance

Yes of course. Beta bios or not RM must read the sensors correctly to be able to set the right values.

I installed my 5800X3D last night and flew around a bit.
All I can say is…Wow!
Worth every penny - even going from a capable 5800X.

I was skeptical that the upgrade would be a value proposition, but I was wrong. I see a very tangible improvement in fps and especially frame times. The yellow spikes in the main thread monitor are just…gone. I saw over 100 fps on a flight that just the other day with the 5800X was about 70 fps. TBH I did not expect that. I was concerned that the 3400 base clock of the X3D would be an issue, as the 5800X base clock was OC to 4400. I see the 5800X3D boosting to 4450 MHz. Temps are a bit higher. The 5800X3D is running max 62°C while the 5800X was around 58°. The X3D idles around the same temp as the X (42°C) I use a 240mm custom loop.

I might play around with PBO, or Kombo Strike (since I have an MSI B550 on the latest Beta BIOS.) But right now I’m very, very happy.

If you have a lesser AM4 CPU (and plan to stay on AM4 for a few years) and are on the fence about the upgrade, jump off the fence now, before the 5800X3D becomes unobtanium.

Pssst…Anybody want to buy a lightly used 5800X?

Welcome to the Cache Club. :+1: Plenty of tutorials about undervolting and what not which should bring temps down but to be fair, what you have now looks good!

I have about the same setup as you and motherboard, just set mine up last weekend. FWIW, I did enable Kombo Strike at level 3, not sure I noticed any difference in performance though, temps still at 62 C after doing so. I’m not interested in fine tuning PBO, seems a little hairy to me, I just want a set it and forget it option like Kombo Strike. Unless somebody can talk me otherwise

Once PBO is set up right you shouldn’t need to revisit it at all.

I agree. Also, PBO settings allow me to increase the max boost and underclock each core on my Ryzen 5900x. It does take some time but it is well worth it in the end.

I’ll have to check it out, this what you guys are using right?

Thanks

If you already have kombo strike set to 3, you dont need this. Kombo strike is curve optimizer and if you have it on 3 it means offset all cores -30.

I recently upgraded from a 3700X to a 5800X3D - all in all, honestly, a bit of a disappointment… If anything, performance is actually worse for me. I seem to have more stuttering than I did before and generally can’t say there’s any noticeable improvement to my sim experience at all. Anyone else had a similar experience with upgrade to this chip?

Actually you are right it does and because the 5800X3D base chip uses binned processors they should all be capable of -30 all core curves. However I believe Kombistrike is only for MSI boards, it doesn’t mean owners of other boards can’t get similar results using PBO alone.

Really? Going from 8 vache cores to 6 seems like a sidestep at best. 7800x3D is out soon!

I have a Gigabyte B550M AORUS PRO-P motherboard and PBO -30 on all cores works fine for me.

That’s as maybe but really you should still run a per core curve optimiser or you could be losing performance. -30 all cores might not crash your PC but Windows would still have to manage any hard faults kicked up.

I’m pretty lucky as I only have to raise two cores by one to -29 and with SMT off not even that. But that’s with a 5800X not the X3D which as I said use binned chips so IMO they should get even better results.

Why not 7800x3d? It is the best msfs processor.

The price?

No problems at all, no missing performance and as stable as a rock.

Yes, when you have a ultra highend GPU.
But when you have a RTX3060ti like i have, then the 5800X3D is more then enough.

You’re missing the point that most of those who have upgraded to the 5800X3D don’t plan to upgrade from the AM4 platform for several years. If I had unlimited disposable income, I probably would make the move to AM5.
