Guys, what LOD and OLOD settings are you using with the 5800X3D flying airliners like the PMDG?
I use TLOD 100 and OLOD 100 in VR and 200 / 200 in 2D.
If I may expand on your excellent suggestion:
Type ‘Group Policy’ in the search window. Run ‘Edit Group Policy.’ You will be in ‘Local Computer Policy.’ Once there, navigate to:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System/Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication settings > Turn off Windows device driver searching
(ENABLE IT)
Local Group Policy will run whenever Windows starts.
Hi Guys,
Finally managed to test the 5800X3D for over 2 hours in MSFS. Below are the temps and clock recorded by HWiNFO64 during the section. I have a PBO2 -20 undervolt set.
Does it all look good?
Have your tried PBO2 -30, because on my rig that works rock stable and give me max. temps of 68 dgr full trottle.
When running MSFS the temps stays below 54 dgr.
Slightly off topic, but the 8 core Ryzen 7 5700X has dropped in price recently. It outperforms last years entry level 6 core CPUs, offers great price-performance ratio and caches are L1: 512KB, L2: 4.0MB, L3: 32MB boost clock 4.6 Ghz
For a budget upgrade it offers a good CPUmark/$Price ratio at about $190
It’s similar to the X3D in single thread performance, but does not have the massive 96MB cache. My electronic engineering background makes me think the massive cache is the key feature, on a fast PCI motherboard.
Wondering what kind of performance people are getting with the FBW? I run a 5800x3d and 4090 and my performance with that plane isn’t great. I can run the PMDG at 60FPS in most scenarios even with LOD set at 400 but for some reason the FBW just tanks no matter what LOD I put it at. It’s running at 20-25 FPS in sim so with FG around 40-50. This happens at airports that aren’t even that heavy load wise. I tested it around some of the nordic countries at airports like OSL, Tromso, etc. Even during climb and cruise it just wouldn’t improve. I’m wondering if it’s a FBW issue or something else on my end. I know the PMDG is much better optimized but seeing some of the posts in this thread I feel like it shouldn’t be that bad. My benchmarks were fine in Cinebench so shouldn’t be a hardware issue. My temps are a bit higher than I’d like peaking in the 70s but that should be fine for this chip. Running latest bios and drivers as well.
I just loaded up at KLAX with both the FBW and PMDG 737 on my 5800X3D and 4080 and am pulling around 47 and 44 FPS with the former and latter respectively at 4K Ultra Preset and FG off. ie. FBW performs slightly better than the PMDG. CPU temp is just on 60C for both.
Looks great. AMD themselves have indicated that the Ryzen chips work best when their temps are close to max TDP under stress. While you don’t want the chip pegged at max all the time, it’s ok for it to spike that high.
Nailed it!
Is this with addon scenery and live traffic? I’m using the latest experimental version as well if that matters. Maybe I should try using the dev version. But with you getting over double my FPS without FG at LAX when I’m at Tromso which has nothing around it something just seems off.

This was with default scenery and MP traffic only but with cloudy live weather. I also just tried loading up FSLTL AI live traffic and FPS drops to 37 and 33 for FBW and PMDG respectively, again with FG off.
Interesting. I’ll have to try default LAX to see what I get. But Tromso even with an addon airport should be getting way better than 20 FPS. Which version of the FBW are you on?
Stable v0.9.1.
Interesting. Ok I’ll give the other versions a try later and see what I get.
Oh!, didn’t know that. Thanks!
Fstl brings this CPU to it knees! Landing Fenix at LVR KSAN dropped me below 30fps.
I’m hoping with v2 Fenix is better optimized.
A new GPU is on the horizon hopefully sometime this year. My rx6800 is starting to hold me back with demanding airports. FSR don’t use it. Doesn’t look good on cockpit displays.
Just to make sure I understand, are you saying complex airports are making you GPU-limited? That seems counter to my experience. Big airports hammer my CPU and my GPU (6800XT) is rarely running near 100% utilization.
I fear you may upgrade your GPU and then be disappointed when you don’t see any performance gains in your situations.
I should add that I am using DLSS Quality, not TAA with default Ultra preset, with secondary scaling of 1.5 in UserCfg.opt, as shown below, to give a final render of 4K. This gives me the benefit of DLSS AA, which I find superior to TAA, but without the blurriness of instruments that not using this secondary scaling would produce.
