AMD 5800X3D performance

100% GPU usage doesn’t sound like a GPU bottleneck to me. I’m having no issues with PMDG though. It’s just Fenix uses more CPU buts it’s smooth.

I am not sure about your 13600k though but I figure the 5800X3D is probably better paired with a 6800XT. It’s definitely maxing out my RX6800 with DX12. That’s sitting at complex airports ultrawide 1440p averaging 60fps with Pmdg.
Fps will drop a little enabling fstl.

Try the latest experimental, there have been performance increases.

That’s what I’ve been using

So I just tested your exact scenario and actually got slightly better numbers than you. Maybe high 30s even with traffic. PMDG is still better but not as much as I thought. I wonder if it’s just the scenery I’ve been using lately to test is not as optimized as I thought. ORBX OSL and MM Sim Tromso should be easy on the system since it’s not a big metro area like say LAX. Just find it super weird that LAX is better than OSL. I disabled the max frames in NCP and that improved performance a bit so I wonder if there was something screwy there. It’s still fairly smooth but not quite as smooth when frames are capped and it can actually hold 60 FP with FG enabled.

You should be getting slightly better numbers than me with a 4090 vs the 4080 I ran the tests with, so that’s good to see. Yesterday I upgraded to a 4090 so I’ll give that scenario another go when I finish my current flight and see if mine improves too.

Here’s that same scenario as here, except live weather is obviously a bit different but still quite cloudy, with my 4090 instead of the 4080 showing a rise to 45 FPS vs 37 FPS beforehand. As I am mainthread limited in both tests, I’m surprised, but certainly not disappointed, that the 4090 is pulling better FPS despite being CPU limited here.

Edit: 5 minutes later and FPS has dropped to 41 FPS so there is a bit of variability due to changing MP and real time AI traffic.

That’s pretty on par with what I got. For some reason last flight my cpu load went way higher after a couple of hours. I’ve never had the performance degradation in flight like others have had so that’s a first. Thankfully doing a workaround from the thread discussing the issue got it back to what it was. Landed in Vienna staying close to 60fps. Wasn’t quite able to hold it so there was some stuttering but it was passable. Hopefully in the next SU it will be better optimized.

What’s the workaround? is happening to me to when landing after a long flight.

Disable online functionality then reenable it

oh, I will give it a try. Thanks!

Time to upgrade my AM4 from a 3700X one last time, maybe…

Hi all, I am a bit worried my 5800X3D is running too hot.

I am getting temps in the 80s in the sim when using Fenix? Is this too much?

Thanks so much, will take a look at this!

Hello, i recognize a strange behavior - my 5800x3d runs at normal speed after lauchning the sim for round aboud 5-10 minutes (up to 4,5Ghz) but after a while, the core speed stuck @3400mHz.
after closing the sim, the Core rises again to 3,6 - 4,4 in Windows.

anyone else see this ? any suggestions?

What are your temps like?

highest 67 to max 70 with a negative 20 curve and AiO

I’d recommend to check your chipset drivers to make sure you are on the latest and greatest from AMD (not the MB manufacturer).

I will give it a try - but outside MSFS the core speeds are normal. Thank you @WingWarper1

What is your power supply, please give system specs everything. If you have sorry, give them again. Its not bad paste, or you’d rocket high temps sooner. Do you clean your case? what are your ambients?
