AMD or INTEL

hi everyone,
I am buying a new computer for this simulator…

Intel CORE(R) I7-9800x
Geforce RTX 3080

Can i run the sim at ultra graphics with this setup?

Which is best?
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or intel?

I’m running a Ryzen 3900x and RTX2070 super in Ultra with decent FPS. I would recommend AMD over Intel because you get more bang for your buck.

are you getting 16 gb of ram or 30? I say go with 30 so your pc is instantly ready for future pc games.

30…
Let’s spend something more! :joy: :joy: :joy:

Yes, in fact it is true, if I use a 30gb I will be able to play games in the future

Don’t be cheap on the motherboard either. Having quality vrms and mosfets along with a proper cooling solution makes for a much more stable system Both not overclocked and strong overclocked.

Ok, as far as the motherboard is concerned I was thinking about the MSI MPG Z390 gaming plus

Could work out for you. Although I’ve noticed MSI boards are a bit less stable. And of course there is the budget issue isn’t there?

Do you really mean 9800X? 9900K or 10900K might be faster for gaming and far cheaper when you include the cost of motherboard etc.

10900K would be the best CPU to buy for the sim. I usually recommend AMD, but there’s no denying that Intel will give you a higher framerate in CPU-demanding titles, and MSFS is most certainly one.

See this excellent MSFS GPU and CPU comparison from Tom’s Hardware:

In short: in 1080p, a 9900K gets them 50.45 fps while a 3900X (which is faster than the 3700X even in few-threaded tasks) gets them 45.4 fps.
The 10900K ought to give another few frames over the 9900K.
Not a huge difference; the difference is bigger on lower graphical settings.

In GPU-limited higher resolutions such as 4K the difference has vanished and they are practically equal.

However, this may not be the case in CPU-limited planes such as the jetliners, in which I would expect Intel to come out on top again.

Yes the budget is about 1500$. What do you suggest me for the motherboard?

I prefer ASUS boards and never had a bad one. Their prime series seems to be a good median board. It has good parts and decent cooling solutions with room for lots of expansion. I would not recommend Gigabyte though. I’ve seen too many issues there. But bottom line all companies have a low cost board a mid range board and a top of the line which allows one to be in all price ranges.
I would recommend starting with a mother board when shopping and go to that boards support page and checking the QVL (qualified vendors list) when buying ram.

Budget AMD. Have the money and want slightly more performance Intel but AMD has come so far the difference isn’t huge to justify the price difference.

Build 3/3/20 - AMD 3800X OC 4.25GHZ $339/ MSI 5700XT $339- 20.8.3 driver / 32 G Ram 3600Mhz $120 / Asus TUF Gaming wifi MB $189 / Samsung EVO 500gb SSD $99 / 2560x1440 display $359 / THRUSTMASTER T.Flight Hotas X Joystick $49 / 100+ internet / Default Ultra settings except for RENDER=100 & TLD=100 / New update 9/2 / Live everything (traffic / ATC)

Big cities (JFK-LAX-ORD-SFO) / airliners / rain-heavy weather nets me about 30 fps on the ground / low altitute 35 and 40+ above 5000 feet.

Big cities / GA planes nets me about 39 on the ground and 40+ in the air.

I have the AMD Radeon software and this sim dialed in so well I have no studders micro or otherwise. OK may an occassional studder but it hardly retracts from the experience. The studders were ruining the experinece for me especially low altitude and banking, that is the issue I was fighting. It took a while to get the sim to run smoothly but I think I finally did it! For me the trick was finding a balance between the CPU and GPU. In the FPS counter, the reading bounces back and forth between limited by gpu/cpu.

Intel 10700K. More fps, lower memory latency, more expensive though.

That should be enough. I have the MSI RTX 3080 Super an the AMD Ryzen 3950 and I am able to play on ultra-setting.

You have an RTX 3080 Super all right… The normal 3080 isn’t even available yet, but the 3080 Super is not even announced.

You are absolutly right. That was nonsense. I have the 2080 Super.

10700kf or 10700k are the best choices for flight today.
In the future I don’t know but I doubt that the multicore optimization will be available for a long time otherwise microsoft would have waited a few months for the realease. The 3800x isn’t much cheaper. The advantage of the intel will be especially in large airports like LFPG.
