Recently came across this video in my Youtube feed. Interesting watch, good to finally have a parallel taxiway at Q in EHAM. Has been the cause of some headaches while on Unicom on Vatsim as well!
In any case, I was wondering if Asobo is planning to update their handcrafted airports based on these real life changes. EHAM is of course part of the Premium edition of the game. So, will it be updated based on the real life counterpart, or will it stay as a snapshot from when the game was released?
KORD is a mess, too. Not reflective of the current runways in use, and it’s one of the busiest airports in the world. I hope they continue to update regardless of premium status.
I see that 9R/27L is shorter than it’s supposed to be, and 9C/27C is missing. Any other details I am missing?
I hope they continue to update regardless of premium status.
Agreed! The post was aimed at all sceneries from the base game. Hopefully the airports in the World Updates as well, but I can understand that having to keep all those airports up to date will be a monumental task, and perhaps development time will be better invested in other projects.
From what I understand though, the base game airports should be modifyable by the community. The (Premium) Deluxe airports are not, due to encryption. See this post:
The community can, and is already modifying the airports they can, as they have done for RJTT:
I think I’ll have to wait for the next Q&A session to ask them this question…
I do see updates for many hand crafted airports when wider updates happen, but I’ve little idea of what they actually do.
KDFW for instance still hasn’t got any apron lighting which is bizarre as it takes all of an hour or two and making it must’ve consumed hundreds of hours.
Unlike a dedicated airport developer they probably don’t feel the need to stay on top of new happenings. Once it’s done it’s done, bar scenery breaking updates.
It is by FAR from the only airport without ramp/gate lighting, which is just nuts. It’s even worse for auto-gen airports. Be sure to check out this mod (which frankly should be part of the base game and it astounds me that 16 months after the sim launched, it’s not already):
