I really miss analog gauges. A significant number of aircraft are installed with digital displays in the MSFS 2024 simulator. We would like to enjoy analog gauges on all aircraft in MSFS 2024. Flying is a completely different experience for aircraft equipped with analog gauges.
Much prefer digital displays over analogue. Personal taste I guessā¦
Which group of āweā are you referencing, please?
The instruments are nicer in my opinion. The development team should have released the planes with analog/digital instruments. Youāre right that itās a matter of taste. The older generation prefers analog displays. The younger generation prefers digital displays.
The fact is modern aircraft are digital displayed, never even having analog displays. And more are being retrofitted all the time. For a simulator set in 2024 this is accurate except for truly historical aircraft.
Who is āWeā? Are you more than one person?
I disagree. Since when is a Beechcraft Bonanza, Beechcraft Baron, Cessna Caravan, Pilatus PC-12 a historic aircraft?
I see. Iām an āolder generationā (in my 60ās) who prefers digital displays. On what basis did you reach your conjecture, please?
I prefer analogue gauges tooā¦ but in appropriate aircraft. I wouldnāt expect an A400M with dials, but thats why I like to fly the 146 / Shorts 360 / 330 etc. If they fancy making a BAC One-Eleven or a Hawker Siddeley Trident or VC10 Iām all for it
TBH I bought all the Just flight black box Gauge overhaul analog for MSFS, waiting for them to be compatible for MSFS 2024. King air, Caravan and bonanza.
Come on, if more than one person wants steam gauges (and clearly thatās the case), then itās perfectly appropriate to refer to them as āweā. Also, in the four years of the 2020 forum being online, it seemed pretty clear to me that some of the older simmers preferred the steam gauges and didnāt like the digital displays. No need to be so literal.
RE Historic Aircraft. All those airplanes mentioned are modeled as they are new in 2024 or the latest variant. Here is the interior of the Baron from the Beechcraft site. Appears just as it does in 2020 and 2024. Baron G58
Iām sorry if you donāt understand what Iām talking about. I would like to ask the development team to give the wall user the option to choose which one they want to use.
Oh I got that. I was simply positing that since the airplanes are new in sim thatās how they appear.
Itās been a long time since those aircraft have rolled out with steam gauges as primary instrumentation. Donāt get me wrong Iām a fan of steam gauges myself but it is not the future of aviation. Heck the new Skyhawk, Caravan, Bonanza, and Baron have a single GI 275 that replaces the steam standby gauges and has amazing capabilities for itās size.
Im a steam guage fan.
Theres a few aircraft with guages but, i too, would like to see even more.
Me too, that makes the āweā valid, case closed.
Orville & Wilbur 1904, Bonanza 1947, Baron 1961 ā¦ ādigitalā was referring to fingers and numbers only back then, so I would say all of these are āhistoricā.
Personnally, I love how some developers have given us switches in their cockpits so we can switch options (MSFS2020) with instrucments and GPS/Map displays
This is all about what is appropriate as far as Iām concerned. Some newer aircraft models were never ever supplied with analog instruments so if would be inappropriate to make believe a version with steam gauges. Equally older aircraft no longer flying never made it into the digital era so that would also be inappropriate. Where the discussion or decision making comes is for those many aircraft types whose life span covers both eraās. From the other preference one could equally ask why some aircraft are analog only with no glass option. Which moves it towards meaning an analog and digital glass cockpit version for each and every aircraft like there is for the C172. Probably not going to happen but I understand the sentiment of wanting to have a choice.
Iām part of the āweā as well. Personally I like flying without GPS, in order to give me navigation challenges. With analog gauges this works the best for me as the glass cockpits always seem to have GPS. The way A2A did the Comanche 250 is ideal for me. With that plane you can select, using the EFB, whether you want a GPS or not.
Note that I would be totally fine with analog gauges being available in older planes only. Historical planes or just old ones still doing their job at the flying club.
Not trying to convince anyone of anything, just my personal preference.
Many simmers prefer analog gauges and MS knows it. Thatās why the market place if full of them. I donāt think they have any intensions adding analog planes to the base sim, the famous flyer series takes care of that. If you are on a budget the Bonaza V35 is probably one of most interesting offers at a reasonable price.
