[ANNOUCEMENT] Miltech Simulations MH-60, in Partnership with Blackbird!

Until Microsobo fixes the DX12 implementation, this is the kind of detail that every aircraft needs.
I’ll be buying this and the mission editor with my next paycheck.

I flew this at the weekend and it’s very enjoyable to fly, but there are a couple of issues. When coming to a quick stop by pitching up with the cyclic and dropping the collective there’s a loss of control authority, which I’ve not experienced with other helicopters. The helicopter is also fairly sluggish to control inputs, which was also identified by a UH-60 pilot.

Also, the Rotor Hd light switch - does this do anything?

Hopefully, Miltech can work with this guy to work on the flight model. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/iQ4xvbJ7UsQ

We are actively in communication with him, and currently working on the improvements for the FM. Small details, really, as there are 1-line changes

That’s great to hear, most issues are just niggles, but loss of control authority with no collective is a biggy imo.

Most likely that is tied to the dampening on the pitch/roll axes. Currently experimenting with it.

It’s accessible with a controller and the auto-trim mode. I’m looking forward to seeing how it flies with my AB9 setup and the auto-trim off. Much like the Taog H500, it’s enjoyable with any controller setup i’ve tried so far. The auto-trim sacrifices some realism, but is needed with a gamepad.

This one should mature well.

For those interested, the Low and Ultra-Low VRAM Patches are now available:

Awesome! I experienced stutters with my 8 GB RTX2070S, so really looking forward to trying this patch!

Update: I cannot overwrite the files in my community folder. Installed the MH-60 via Contrail. MSFS2024 running on Windows 11. Probably some new protection in Windows 11? Still searching …

Update 2: Got things working by zipping the mh60 folder from my community folder, unzipping it somewhere else, applying the patch, ininstall via Contrail, and then copy the patched version manually to the community folder. In MSFS2024, I had to copy&paste my registration code, did not have to do that before with the Contrail install. But in the end I have the low VRAM version installed, and the performance on my system is greatly improved

Update 3: Even with the low VRAM patch, performance in places like New York City is still really bad on my system. But before the patch I had stutters even in Kodiak, which is really fine now.

Didn’t the Dolphin have an issue with the controls locking if certain conditions were met? I thought there was a famous video of it happening during a flyby… Could this be the same behavior?

Edit: found the video, pulls nose up to abruptly and controls lock

Listening to real Blackhawk pilot SnakPak’s YouTube Review (linked above by PCMRTumnus), the loss of control authority with no collective is just unrealistic and would cause auto rotations to end in disaster. But Miltech are already in contact with him and using his feedback, so I am really looking forward to some improvements in the handling department. At one point he calls the Blackhawk the “Maserati of the skies”, so it probably should be a lot more sensitive than it is in the current version 1.0.

Similar to that, but not anywhere near as violent, as the control isn’t sensitive enough to pitch like that in the MH-60. However, the pilot in the video was able to pitch forward to recover, in the sim you won’t recover in the MH-60 without increasing collective, which isn’t correct, you’ll just fall tail down out of the sky like your rotors have stopped.

I did post this on the Miltech Discord already but thought it might be helpful for people here as well, just in case you have not joined the discord already.
Note: I am using 2024, not tested in 2020

Hi I would like to share the scripts I “created” to be used with Axis-and-Ohs.
Note I am not a developer therefor my skills are very limited. But maybe someone find them helpful.
Maybe here is someone who could make this smarter and I would be happy to get some help.

A small tip based on my embarrassing attempt to land the MH-60S on the helipad of the US. Bank Tower in Los Angeles (that’s the one you see in the Skycrane segment of the intro video).

If you’re landing the MH-60S on a raised platform, sea or land, make sure you land well forward. That Sierra tailwheel is a loooong way back. The tailwheel position on the Romeo and Tango models isn’t just to be different.

Edit: yes, I do know that the MH-60S exceeds the maximum permitted weight for that pad. Luckily, helipads aren’t prone to collapse in the sim.

will we be able to choose between MSFS avatar and your avatar?

No, only our avatars.

Reason is - MSFS only includes civilian avatars, which looks very odd on a military aircraft.

I hope it comes out today on xbox

Negative, not today. We will announce when we have a release date, various things being addressed on the backend.

Based on your Discord post, I was able to figure out how to adapt your scripts/variables for use with Mobiflight, which was fun. I also banged my head against the wall for a couple days and figured out how to bind the Hover Altitude knob along with the Longitudinal Velocity and Lateral Velocity knobs.

MSFS 24 have a military pilot body, but I understood. Its planned to animate the crew (head movement etc.) so it will not look frozen.

Military pilot in MSFS is fighter, not helicopter.

As for animations, yes - there will be improvements on the pilot bodies and animations.
