I don’t necessarily think the depth v cost is wrong. That’s an individual dev and user decision. I happen to think Carenado do alright with that. What I mentioned were the core expertise being heavily biased one way as perhaps a reason for what we get from them and something they are often criticised for which is the lack of timely updates.
I have mixed feelings about Carenado. During the years I’ve had some of their products which turn out to be waste of money. On the other hand, I have really enjoyed some other of their airplanes.

There are three things I really like:
- Without Carenado we would have much, much limited collection of airplanes to choose from.
- They have pushed up the visual quality of the airplanes. By doing this they might have forced other producers to do that.
- They are really good to choose which airplanes to make. That collection of theirs is interesting.
Each one for their own. I will be interested to see Do228 when it is finished. But wont buy it before I can see what it is going to be like. Can’t trust them to fix their products, sadly.
Marketplace exclusively… 
Pretty awesome to see them slowly bringing their whole fleet into MSFS, sucks that the majority of them are MP exclusive. I really want to see the EMB-120 and a few others in the sim! I basically owned every product they released in FSX/P3D
B1900D would be nice.
I would be happy if it was just a 1:1 rendition of the XP version (with up to date model and textures of course).
I honestly don’t need much system depth in a Do228, it is a Turboprop workhorse. Nothing too fancy there. Of course, turboprop logic (fixed shaft TPs!) has to be plausible.
If all the other releases are a blueprint then not entirely. It will be MP only upon initial release and some extended time after that it will probably appear for sale on their own web store.
But probably with a waiting period of 6–12 months. The Carenado Baron B55, for example, was released in August 2025 and remains a Marketplace exclusive.
Or the CT210N, it was released in June 2025 and is still a Marketplace exclusive.
Right now, pretty much all 2024 aircraft are Marketplace exclusives…

I hope for the best. Their V35 is actually pretty decent.
Carenado has some real gems, but they got splashed with the whole 2024 mess. I think they’ve returned to their old quality now, so I am confident this will be a solid release. The B200 and B390 are excellent modules. I expect they will continue to improve.

I think Carenado aircraft strike a good balance between excellent textures and modeling, along with buttons and systems that work well enough for what they are intended to do.
I don’t expect a lot from Carenado. What bothers me the most is that they seem far more focused on releasing new aircraft add-ons than fixing existing bugs.
If users take the time to report bugs, I wish they would actually fix them.
Personally I love Carenado aircraft. For those times where I’m time sensitive these really fit my needs. They look great, they feel good in flight, and they “put me there”. For the money that’s a good outcome.
They are not perfect, but even many of the most highly regarded add-ons aren’t either (as this forum attests). I have some extremely expensive “all bells and whistles (promised at least)” add-ons that are far from what they are billed as offering, btw.
People buy what they want according to their individual needs and desires and its great that we have such varied levels of add-ons that cater to the vast majority of us. Carenado undoubtably fulfill a distinct niche in this and I think that’s great.
Really looking forward to this aircraft. I’ve never regretted buying one of their aircraft.

We’ll know soon enough if the Dornier 228 is any good or not. Imagine how much more popular Carenado planes would be if they put in a little more effort.
Just look at what @aurel42de is doing for free with the old Twin Otter.
Designing complicated systems takes a lot of fine tuning, there is alnost always something that will need further tweaking, support and perfecting with time. And if you fix one thing it might influence others. Plus, changes in the sim can mess up more of your systems.
If the system is more simplified it’s easier to bring it faster to market and there is a smaller chance that it will need additional support. The business model does make sense, even if it’s totally not my preferred one as a consumer of good planes.
EDIT: Ok, to stay on the topic. I’m so hyped for the real life plane I might actually buy it
