[Announcement] FS Trains: North America

It spawns a train when you start your flight, but wont spawn another one until you get 60 miles away from it. I’ve reduced that to 10 miles, and testing with that you can pretty much find trains anywhere. Next week the mod will update with that and a few other fixes.

Great thanks. Looking forward to that update

if possible, consider having density adjustments available in a .cfg file.

A spacing of 10 miles on the tracks seems realistic.
In Europe, on busy double track main routes, the frequency can be like 5-10 trains per hour. For 6 trains per hour, the spacing (given an average speed of 100 km/h) would be 17 km = about 9 nm. Take the same number of trains into the opposite direction, and you should easily be able to spot trains when flying along the tracks.

Yeah spawning trains in both directions for double tracks would be really cool

Can you say what these other fixes are?
Will we see freight in the US now too?

How does this affect FPS on lower systems?

If there is no train on your screen, there is no affect on FPS. When you can see a train there may be a small impact from rendering it as there is with any object.

I can’t find a single video of this addon in action. I find myself not that interested until I can get some sort of look at it.

I made this short video when I got the mod, but don’t expect high quality lol, I was moving very clumsily in slew mode:

For myself the immersion is worth it. Landing in Tucson with a stack train off to the side as traffic flowed below me made it seem all that much more alive. And that is what I think this mod does well. I don’t go chasing trains, well I did the first time, but now they are just there. Like the cars. And my sim is a little more as real as it gets. Or is it the sky isn’t the limit?

That’s fantastic!I can hardly wait.Personally I like older trains and Europe as well as U.S.Looks like it doesn’t include Maine and New Hampshire, wish you could extend it there also.

I experienced that also. I did see trains moving and it was awesome. I uninstalled it for now. I do love the product

In understand people are upset about the loading times seeing less trains than expect. An update comes out next week fixing these things.

In the mean time do you all have to be so brutal on the ratings? It’s quickly approaching becoming the lowest rated product of all time, hidden away in an obscure corner of the marketplace to never sell another copy again.

Those low ratings are likely people that are not following this thread and your work. They are only able to go off what they experience. The poor rating system is another common marketplace complaint. Is it possible to update the description to say it’s a work in progress? They may help offset the poor ratings.

At first I was going to purchase this immediately but after I read many comments on this thread and did see the low star ratings, it kept me at a standstill for now . I will wait for the update than purchase this if looks to be improvement. The developer seems very involved in this project and that is a great thing to have . My only question is will this be complicit with 2024 ? Best regards .

With all respect for your work - when you want to sell an innovative addon, thorough beta testing by several users would be mandatory. People are much more forgiving when you publish freeware, not so with payware.

■■■■ that sucks. I haven’t even rated it. But to be fair, if I wasn’t in this thread I’d feel quite ripped off too in its current state.

Although to be fair again, it didn’t really promise any certain quantity of trains in the description.

But intuitively one would expect more.

Quite early on in this thread (around post 38) I posted my own reservations with this mod but received a very quick reply from the developer regarding the questions I put. I didn’t buy it (don’t think it’s for me at the moment to be honest) but nevertheless I appreciated the rapid response.

Since then I have seen heaps of praise placed on the mod and a lot of you obviously like the idea of the mod. However, it’s obviously not working great for a lot of you at the moment. Yeah, I get it …

Maybe though, just work with him a bit to improve it? Maybe give him a chance before weighing in with the **** reviews? Maybe even wait for a couple of updates before writing it off as a waste of money? The dev obviously seems very keen to improve it.

A bit of positivity, patience and constructive criticism here might be the best way forward for everybody.

Just my thoughts on this one.
