thanks a lot
@StevenPearce833 Thank you for working to quickly resolve problems with FSTrains and putting out updates to fix the problems people have experienced. When you released the first update removing the water masks, the performance problems that I experienced in MSFS2020 improved dramatically and it is now running really well on my PC. If there are any more water masks that can be removed it would probably improve the performance even more. I want to let you know that I am really enjoying seeing trains running along the tracks below me as I am flying over them, it really is a great improvement to the program. I look forward to seeing how your scenery improves and expands. I was looking at the map that you posted of FSTrains and I noticed a mistake that you had on it. North of Philadelphia, the West Trenton Line (Reading Railroad) between Neshaminy Falls Station PA and Jenkintown PA is listed as being a freight line. In reality it is actually pretty much exclusively a passenger rail line used by SEPTA often using ex-Amtrak trains. Freight trains only run on the line occasionally really late at night when they arenāt being used for passenger service because the freight trains use the other line coming out of Neshaminy Falls Station going just south of the passenger line to Olney, PA. I know this because I actually live near Jenkintown PA really close to this line. I am not trying to nitpick or anything but I just wanted to let you know so that maybe you could change the trains on this particular line to passenger trains sometime down the road so that it better matches the real world. I want to help so that FSTrains continues to improve and get better as you develop it further.
Hi gxm, thanks for the feedback. I have put on the task list to integrate this dataset into the mod: Regional Rail Lines
if there come trains for the Alps and Germany,
i am in,hope my pc can handel
Great Addon wat i see so far
I spent some hours enjoying the latest world update this week. Was great to find multiple rail bridges and stations around the Alps and Germany are included.
Does that mean⦠youāre⦠thinking⦠about it?
Or are tunnels still a show-stopper?
You could start with UK though mate. I mean just static trains would be perfectly acceptable and realistic then
after the wu,there is a moving train now,i think it at Zütich
also a lot trafic for cable cars now
Itāll be fine to have some moving trains just so long as they are late.
They should definitely all stop if there is the wrong kind of snow. Or in the autumn when leaves drop. We need seasons for that so maybe in the MSFS2024 version?
Thanks, but can I ask why only āslightlyā vs āsignificantā. or give users an interface to pick themselves? Iām cautiously optimistic but expecting finding trains still be be sparse and difficult vs real life if I drive around these areas.
This is just my opinion, but I think people are expecting too much. I live near one of Michiganās busiest railway junctions. In fact, one track runs behind my property. During the day, I see 3 to 4 trains maximum, at night only 2 or 3 go by. That averages to 1 train every 3/4 hours.
Now if Iām flying GA aircraft in a straight line along railroads, maybe cut that number in half (but this is just a guess). Maybe Iām not understanding what people are expecting.
A slider to increase/decrease train traffic would be nice, regardless.
The more trains, the less the frames. I keep it at a level where nobody will see any performance drop in their regular flights.
Iām happy the way they are now, at their peak IRL you get to see one long cargo train passing roughly every hour at most? itās much lesser time in the mod and thatās okay.
Fair enough. Thanks
This was part of the DACH update? Crazy.
That looks like the monorail sets that move around some airports in the sim, not an actual train. I wonder why itās out in the wild.
StephenPearce833, that is great news that you plan to eventually include the other Septa commuter lines in the area. I was just hoping to have you change the West Trenton Line to the Siemens Amtrak trains so that it would have passenger trains like in the real world since you already had it shown on what you had already done. The other Septa lines are a nice surprise if you can include them in the future. SEPTA uses the older style Silverliner commuter trains and the Siemens ACS-64 engines pulling passenger cars, the same engines that Amtrak uses on the NEC and Keystone Corridor to Harrisburg PA pulling Amfleet cars. Amtrak uses them for standard passenger service and the high speed Acela trains on the NEC for express service between Boston MA and Washington DC. Amtrak also uses the P-42 Genesis engines pulling Amfleet cars out of Philadelphia to destinations beyond the electrified tracks such as Chicago because of low clearance from the cantenary, overpasses and tunnels that you have in the northeastern U.S. particularly on the NEC. This prohibits the the northeast that Amtrak uses for most of their long distance trains throughout other parts of the country like the Auto Train to Florida or the Southwest Chief. One of the things with living in the Philadelphia area is that I get to see a wide variety of trains that Amtrak and SEPTA uses, particularly around 30th Street Station where all of the lines come together and driving along I-95 where the highway parallels the NEC. There is a large railroad history in Philadelphia PA with the city being the HQ for what used to be two of the largest railroads in the world, the Pennsylvania and Reading Railroads. There is still very heavy rail traffic in the area with very frequent trains, around every 10 minutes or so during peak times. Seeing trains this frequently in the real world it is really nice seeing a few trains along the tracks now in the area in MSFS 2020.
I bought this mod on day one and have been extremely happy with it. I fly several time a day almost every day. My very first flight with this mod was in Cincinnati, and I found a train right away. I have seen at least two trains with almost every flight Iāve done since. I used the included route map and with the help of LNM created a flight plan from San Diego to the state of main. Iāve been following the tracks about two hours at a time and still see trains with every flight. Absolutely amazing addon. One thing I have seen which many have commented on here is seeing trains that approach tunnels. I have actually seen this happen north of LA, and what I saw was a train comes up to the tunnel, then the train rides up the hill on one side, then comes back down the other side, and continues along the track after the tunnel. Iām not complaining here because it is still an impressive addon, just mentioned it so others know what happens. Outstanding addon Stephen. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the info. I did some investigation, and tunnels are not working as had I them working in development. Trains were meant to stop when reaching a tunnel, but, something got mixed up at some point, so they are driving from one side to the other over the terrain.
This way does have an advantage; if you can ignore that the train is riding over the terrain, you can continue to follow it. I will try implement a better solution, such that the trains go under the terrain and come out the tunnel on the other side.
I ignored the trains riding up the terrain, and Iām glad I did. Watching it continue along after the tunnel took it to some really beautiful, scenic curves. I wish I knew how to take good screenshots while in VR. I would have had some amazing shots of the trains in action. I really love this addon!
