[Announcement] FS Trains: North America

Put the spawning distance of each train about 3 miles. it will be thousands of trains, but so be it, let them go in both directions also. Hurry up taburet has released another addon, now in GB. It has 318 trains going around on train lines, and in both directions. I saw in debug mode about 24 trains spawned at same time.
Now you got competition, but dont give up Steven, i atleast will support your work. Keep it going.

Tero

pretty much that. Not buying anything in the MP until 2024 is released

Sounds great.
Compared to the US, Switzerland is microscopic though. So honestly I would have expected more something like ā€œFS Trains - Western Europeā€

Not sure how I missed this, Iā€™ll be picking this up! The price is good and this is a much needed product.
I do think that the tracks and train stations/depots need a lot of work to really make your train mod look great and hopefully we see that in the future. Itā€™s a lot of work Iā€™m sure. Would be nice if Asobo /MS did more their part to make them look better.

In some ways Switzerland is microscopic, but in terms of rail infrastructure, itā€™s BIG. For example, there are more railway tunnels in Switzerland than there are in the USA.

very much looking forward to it

Do Switzerland and youā€™ll get clients fromā€¦switzerlandā€¦do west europe and youā€™ll get clients fromā€¦west europe.
Personally Iā€™m from East Europeā€¦if there are trains here Iā€™ll buy itā€¦otherwise not.
You can spend a lot of resources on bridges and tunnelsā€¦but as I see it people want different thingsā€¦instead you want to invest resources on scenery that in 2 months will be changed with msfs2024.
I will buy whatever is global, whatever is local Iā€™ll just skip and wait for my regionā€¦

It would be a lot less work to implement global generic trains, riding OSM tracks without bridges and tunnels, but personally I donā€™t have any interest in making that product. If I can make a proper ā€œDigital Twinā€ of the Swiss rail network, I will happily sit back and watch model trains drive around all day, even if nobody purchases it.

Yes, do Switzerland, haha
My GF works for a Swiss railway company
I might be able to get her interested in Flight simulationā€¦

ā€¦then Iā€™ll happily pay for it! :steam_locomotive: :moneybag:

PS: Please also consider selling on SimMarket or Contrail. Youā€™ll get more customers and weā€™ll get updates quicker.

Counterpoint: Iā€™d buy train add-ons for any region Iā€™m interested in flying in, which is far more than my own neck of the woods.

Iā€™d have interest in that and would pay for it. Unfortunately, even with the recent update of the add on, thereā€™s still quite a challenge to find moving trains. Iā€™m in Chicago area and flew for 10 minutes. Disappointed at this product and would suggest to have a slider to spawn trains to the users desire. Up to them if they want to suffer the performance hit, time to find the balance for their liking.

I see the update just dropped in the Marketplaceā€¦ā€¦ I am anxious to see whatā€™s in storeā€¦

Thank you

Well honestly, is there any product that has global coverage until now? I was looking in the World section of the marketplace, but most are just regional packs which I kindly purchased.

most dont buy from marketplace, there are many global products available

This is not true at all. Most ā€œhardcore simmersā€ probably donā€™t but overall the vast majority do.

Agreed. Most of Europeā€™s rail infrastructure is significantly more dense than that of the US.

But since this isnā€™t a rail simulator and overflying Switzerland from North to South takes less than an hour in C172, the additional value of that density for me as a pilot isnā€™t very great.

Donā€™t misunderstand me. I realise the extensive work you must have been doing on this project - and that Europe will be more work for you than the US. Also the fact that MS and Asobo havenā€™t tackled it yet hints to the difficulties involved.

In the end though itā€™s eye-candy that makes the world more realistic but doesnā€™t impact flying in any way. So even if itā€™s more effort on your part, for ME as a user a Switzerland package isnā€™t even closely worth the same kind of money as a US package, so I wouldnā€™t buy it.

So maybe the compromise could be to pick out some of the more scenic routes in Switzland like Albula and Bernina as well as some of the intercity valley routes (ZĆ¼rich-Bern-Lausanne-Geneve) but expand the project to more countries. It would be a good start to have at least the high speed routes. Would be cool to be overtaken by a TGV in France or ICE in Germany.

You got me thinking it would be fun to include some missions. e.g. a race in C172 vs a train travelling through the Gothard base tunnel. I donā€™t know if it can beat the trainā€¦ a C172 takes a while to climb 2000m especially on a hot day when considering density altitude. Maybe a stronger plane could do it.

Yes please, bring on the train chasing/racing missions!

This idea reminds me of the famous PRR Lindbergh Special race, where a Pennsylvania Railroad charter train raced a plane to get the first film of Charles Lindberghā€™s famous flight from Washington D.C. to the theaters in New York City along the current Northeast Corridor. If you can create an activity with a plane racing a train, this could make for an interesting activity with what you already have that is based on an actual historical event.

I just went into the Marketplace to check this addon out and I have to concur in what Editer said. The description, pics and no version info makes it look more scammy than it is, which is a bummer. Thereā€™s nothing indicating, as people write here, that the addon has been improved a lot since its release.

If it at least said that it has been fixed, then people could ignore some of the rating.

Not many clips of the addon in use. Someone here wanna show it off? I love boats, trains and stuff like that in the sim!
