I’m planning a tour of all the US states in the order they were accepted into the union . The addition of trains would make this even more amazing.
Cant wait for release.
As others have mentioned a non-marketplace release would be appreciated. I tend to run a lean sim, using addon linker to only enable what I need for a given flight.
Until the marketplace adds a “disable” and not just a “remove” option. I prefer non-marketplace purchases.

That’s all well and good, for all the reasons listed, but for Xbox users the MP is all there is. Aside from the slow updates, I find the mp just fine. No community folders or multiple purchase points, it just works.

Bit OT but…
It’s obviously up to the individual to decide where to purchase their add-ons but I honestly don’t understand this determination to purposefully avoid the in-sim Marketplace. It’s easy to navigate (more so than many other store sites) and the odd purchase now and again aids the longevity of the sim. Sure, purchases are encoded but that’s a non-issue 99% of the time. Plus, you can transfer the bulk of your purchases over to other stores.

To each their own, but we have laid out several valid reasons for it. Those reasons may not apply to you specifically, but they are what they are.

Indeed. It’s easy for those on Xbox to say it’s fine when they don’t have any other options.
XPlane will be bringing outs its marketplace in the future so it will be interesting to see how they do it. Developer selective DRM is on the cards which coild be a concern just like we have on the MSFS.
Both sims can hopefully learn from each other.

I have two reasons I like the marketplace one I have no choice cause I’m on Xbox two I’ve gotten so many products for free because if you refund something they won’t take the product off the game it sounds fake but it’s real.
Are you gonna be able to drive the trains and will the stations be modeled?
I don’t think I could handle the embarrasment of being passed by a train while flying along a railway line in my C172…

But can the train fly? Nope … they literally had to blow holes into mountains to allow trains to go where they go. That’s embarassing!

No driving the trains. The idea is to make the world feel more alive & immersive for flying in, not make a train simulator.

Saw a train roll past this thing and it made me laugh. Usually the AI ignores trains in the Bing images, but here, well, it tried something

Ah you’ll have to do Australia, we have some of the longest trains in the world, most of which are in the outback including Iron Ore trains and passenger trains like the Ghan pictured here

Will your addon also render any sort of tracks?
Not in first version. I hope to research and develop with 3D tracks in future.
LOL better than what I got flying over the train yards near Chicago last week - lots of pyramids on the tracks! That’s funny!
I think this is great. Perfect addition to the scenery. I’m not a huge fan of the marketplace but I don’t mind if that’s where you can get it. With airplanes, the encryption really hinders things but for an addon like this, it shouldn’t make a difference.

This sounds an interesting addon. Only 4 things will put me off buying it (providing it is set at a reasonable price):
- the fps effect
- whether this will be kind of redundant in the new sim which will be coming out in only 4 months
- whether there will be free updates to get it to work well in the new sim. If there is no commitment here (well as much as is reasonable anyway ) then I will be thinking I may as well just wait a
short time until after the new sim launches
Also, the 4th point, generally I am not a fan of these ‘separate purchase-by-region’ addons which can work out very expensive if you want to cover all of the world you want to fly in. This is why I don’t buy the ‘birds’ or ‘traffic in sight’ addons. Have you any plans at some future date to have bundles which would offer a better option for some customers?
Regarding the Marketplace, I am not a great fan of this either as mentioned by some other posters above. However, I do see that this can be of benefit to some developers and so for me, fwiw, this wouldn’t be a deal breaker.
My aim here btw is not to be negative (just trying to be honest) since I do very much like the idea
Thank you for the feedback. To each point:
- There is no discernable impact on FPS. The train cars are low poly simple boxes, and they are “StaticObject” type in the sim. The code to drive the trains is very simple and fast math written in C.
- For sure I will freely update it to 2024
- I would do global if there were a high quality global data source, but there isn’t. OSM is fantastic but just not good enough to stay on the tracks all the time. To collate enough high quality data for whole world may not be feasible.
