[Announcement] KHOU William P. Hobby International Airport | Texan Simulations

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the time to share and officially announce William P. Hobby International Airport for MSFS. Located in Houston, Texas, this is a major focus city for Southwest Airlines and the 4th busiest in Texas.

Previously, I started this as a freeware project; however, as time went on, I decided I wanted to do the airport justice and give it the treatment that being payware brings. This is a pretty early preview, and we don’t have a release date yet, but I’ll add some updates to this topic occasionally, so keep an eye out.

Here are some preview images:

I’d be interested in Dallas Love Field. As that’s the home of Southwest Airlines. Any plans for KDAL?

there’s going to be a KDAL out soon by Bill Womack that I am sure will knock your socks off as he is a top tier developer. I don’t know the ETA but my guess is sometime in the next few months. Should be great and will also come with the downtown Dallas buildings since the sim has neglected Dallas.

We don’t have any solid plans, but if I had to venture a guess I would probably unofficially say KAUS is likely the next payware project after KHOU. I’ve also thought about doing College Station (can’t remember the name or code off the top of my head).

KHOU is a passion project for me, as the airport is very important to me personally so I’m trying to give the best treatment possible.

I’d love to do KDAL, but if IBlueYonder is working on I wouldn’t want to step on his work. I have lots of respect for Bill as his tutorials helped me learn how to create scenery and I can’t wait to see his work.

Some planned features for KHOU since a couple people asked:

  • Passenger Terminal Interior
  • Custom Jetways
  • Bespoke Taxi Signs
  • PBR Materials
  • Custom Ortho Imagery and Ground Poly to reflect the results of in progress construct to remove the defunct Runway 17. (You can see this in the screenshots)
  • Living World Enhancements (I’ll talk about this in a feature dev update on my website)

Is this project still alive?

Do you have a discord or FB so we can follow along?

Yes it is!

We’re current working on 3D modeling, and texturing so we haven’t been posting many updates while we work on that. I think (this isn’t an official date yet) we are on track for a January or February release.

We’re planning on doing a big bit of promotion with a lot of progress real soon.

We do have a discord too, but I post all official updates on the Texan Simulations website.

Here’s some (mostly untextured) recent work we’ve done.

I have flown into Hobby quite a few times, so looking forward to picking up this one. Is KAUS still the likely candidate for your next project? That will be another day one purchase for me seeing as I flew out of there for the past 11 years. We just recently moved up the road to KEDC which has a pretty nice freeware rendition available already.

This is amazing!!! Im so excited about this SWA Hub

I’m pretty sure I heard KAUS is being worked on by another dev. I have some other plans that I’m gonna explore, but for right now, the main focus is Houston Hobby.

So youre not too far away from release eh? Maybe late Feburary? You’re making great progress.

KAUS nearly complete, developer says its coming soon…

Thanks for that! That looks impressive. Both KHOU and KAUS will be definite day one purchases for me..
