Anti aliasing regression: A lot of shimmering/aliasing happening ever since SU1 beta was pushed

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
I noticed that on the ground, there is a lot of aliasing/shimmering that wasnt present in the live version. Its hard to show on pictures, ill record a video of it and hope it shows on the video, but i cant get it to show on any screenshots naturaly.

No.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every sim session…

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load up the sim and look around at low ground level.
  2. Look around and look for some horiontal lines like stop short markings etc.
  3. notice how it shimmers/aliases like crazy now.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
Not relevant.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

No, and no.

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

I guess my res, 2560x1440, but even when upscaling to 8k this issue is still there. It seems bugged…

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Video is coming soon, ill find the worst offending place and post it here.

Although I agree the issue exists, a simple decrease in sharpness of my TV got rid of it. You might want to try that. just a thought.

I dont have any option to change sharpness on my monitor. Even if i did, i wouldnt sacrifice general image sharpness, but thank you for the suggestion, it might help others

Dang! Thats horrible. Sorry for my suggestion then. but , yes, it will hopefully help someone. Can you use nVidia Control Panel in the meantime maybe?

It does appear they thought maybe complaints about ground blurriness might be solved by a sharpening filter - you’re right.

I also experience a lot of shimmering in the current SU1 beta,
especially noticeable on white runway stripes for example.
7900XTX in 4K without upscaling, without FMF2, only TAA

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Yep, I noticed it on the ‘piano keys’ today as well. Especially if quite thin ones.

Also seeing this with RTX3080Ti using TAA. As others have stated, it is obvious when viewing hold-short lines and other various runway markings.

So… I’ve uninstalled the beta again (due to the overexposure issue).
But the shimmering still remains.
In my flight just now I also extremely noticed it on the fields when flying at about 2000 feet. Really weird.

Same here since SU1 beta build 2

Affirmative. I have noticed the same on Series X - there’s more shimmering in the foliage and the lines around runways and signage especially when taxiing, the markings are shimmering and showing a lot of “steps”, reminds me of games with poor AA.

As another example, here it is happening at china lake airport (KNID) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhJqylCf36M

Spawned in on runway 03, very clearly visible and this is a default airport, so asobo can check this out easily themselves like this.

This has never been an issue, until this SU1 beta. I noticed it in the first build of SU1, i know some say it didn’t happen then, but that’s not true. Regardless, that doesn’t really matter; it needs to be fixed.

With the release of the SU1 beta, Asobo also removed the “supersampling” option in the graphics settings menu, stating they think it’s no longer needed. I would be interested to see what happens to this aliasing, if we were to get that setting back, i think it’s naive to think its pure coincidence that its suddenly here, after that was removed from the sim options menu.

Seeing some weird zigzag patterns when low to the ground, they just pop in when close enough. The aliasing goes crazy when it pops in, possible cause for this issue or just another bug making the aliasing worse? Who knows, but heres a video of what im talking about https://youtu.be/M3WHf_Ryp8I

Yep also seeing this kind of stuff.

What a mess.

Yes I notice this too.

The recent build (1.3.13.0) has not adressed this issue. It wasn’t mentioned either in the changelog, but as we all know there are often hidden changes in there that arent mentioned (like the supersampling setting removal, that i suspect is the whole reason for this aliasing issue) i checked regardless.

No change whatsoever. Please do not release this build with such a major graphical regression.

Yep such a clear regression means SU1 is still not ready for release.
