Any Updated Massachusetts Airports?

Anyone know if Stealthy Duck is going to update his Cape Cod series to support MSFS 2024? Starting to see some scenery start to appear around the area but unfortunately not theirs. KCQX is my favorite, was so well done.

My understanding was that many sceneries should work ok wtih 2024, especially the more basic ones. I’d give it a shot. It’s a different story if updates are required. I’d expect to see major (professional) scenery developers eventually get around to updating their products to work with 2024, could be a few weeks, could be a year or two. For sceneries developed by individuals, like this one - who knows…

You know, having poked around a bit now… default airports are MUCH improved in 2024… I’m thinking that I may not feel the need for third-party updates for many of them. If only the tree blobs could go away…

I love that Northeast NE / Massachusetts has its own thread :sunglasses: Nobody else does that, and it’s exactly what I need, since that’s mostly where I fly, too. Thanks for keeping at it guys!

I haven’t received my pre-ordered 2024 code from Aerosoft yet (surprise, surprise ), so haven’t checked my airports yet. They’d need all those object libraries, though, so, no idea what the status of those is.

Sorry delted my post accidentally:

The scenery over Cape Cod has dramatically improved with MSFS 2024. There is no more photogrammetry line right through the middle of the Cape anymore (which used to drive me nuts by the way). Improvements made over the default airports as well. Definately not to the degree of Stealthy Duck’s work, but an improvement nonetheless.

Just wanted to note my Stealthy Duck pack for the Cape Cod airports made it into my 2024 version today, Chatham looks fantastic!

Not clear - are you saying you got it to work fine in your copy of 2024 or are you the developer?

I am definitely NOT the developer. It showed up yesterday morning in my Marketplace purchases and worked great. Then Jorg’s note from yesterday took all the scenery away until December which really stunk because Cape Cod looked fantastic.

I haven’t been following the drama of 2024 but since my new PC arrived today, I plan on moving past 2020 and installing it. Not quite following, you purchased it off the market place but now it’s not available to use?

I know that the first post seems to be about Cape Cod, but I wanted to mention that I updated Great Barrington (KGBR) airport in western MA in the World Hub to include its compass rose, windsocks in the right place (including one on top of a building), fuel in the right place, trees growing alongside the road, and I “repaved” the roads adjacent to the airport, as well. You can’t edit the default buildings in the World Hub, so it doesn’t look like it’s been edited, but it’s now accurate.

Yes, if you bought scenery in the Marketplace it was removed until the 2024 Marketplace opens:

“We have recently ported much of the marketplace content from Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS 2020) to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024). Recent reports from the community show that some 3rd party add-ons are causing significant issues, including preventing some users from entering the simulator. Until we identify which content is causing these issues, we will temporarily deactivate all MSFS 2020 non-aircraft content from MSFS 2024.”

Unfortunately I am on a Series X so everything of mine comes from the Marketplace

A bit off topic, but some advice for my NE peeps…

If you want to go sightseeing anywhere, you HAVE to give the Joby a try. There is a bit of a learning curve to understand how you’re supposed to set up your controls, but once you do, it is ridiculously easy to fly.

Basically, you get a helicopter, if a helicopter was absurdly simple to control. Or an Osprey that isn’t incredibly difficult to fly, if you prefer. Or a slow F-35 that has much greater loiter time in a hover (and no fuel weight restrictions). Sightlines from the cockpit are good. Once you get the hang of it, there’s enough fine control available to you to put the plane down on the pitcher’s mound at Fenway without a lot of trouble. It’s just that good.

Can’t recommend it more highly. Might be the best thing about 2024.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll be trying it next flight. Don’t know what to make of 2024. From a few thousand feet, Eastern MA looks amazing. Get a bit lower and all of a sudden, many of the buildings are “melted”. I flew into Norwood today. Looked great from a distance but then I noticed the same thing. Some really nice scenery but it’s ruined by melted terrain features and a few large buildings. I’m running on Ultra with a 160 gig cache, I don’t understand what the issue is.

The issue is largely trees. Trees obscure or distort the buildings in the aerial/sat photos, and the sim (or Bing, really) can’t tell what’s building and what’s tree. The generic terrain generation also has no idea how tall a building is (usually), or what shape a roof is, unless it’s clearly apparent from the photography. Google has an extensive library of Street View ground-level photography to go with its aerial photography, which is why Google’s terrain generation (in Earth) is much better.

There’s not a lot we can do to fix that. Someone either needs to go in and hand-craft the photogrammetry (very labor-intensive) or sic AI on the probem (which means you get a building that may look nothing at all like the real one),

The resolution of the aerial photography is a factor as well, although the rez around eastern MA is pretty high. Go to China, though, where it’s almost entirely satellite photography, and… yikes.

Since we appear to be getting the Massachusetts gang back together again…

Hey Flying… Your airports, as far as I can tell, work 100% fine in MS2024. But do you have any plans to go back and add some spit and polish for the new sim? Do not blame you in the least if you don’t… just curious!

Edit: I can’t live without KBED.

Edit #2: Because I tried the default version, and while it’s… fine, there are still 737s showing up at it. I think that might come up at the next Bedford town meeting.

Yeah, I was at the default Norwood yesterday, 737 landed on the taxiway. This sim is still a bugfest. One minute I’m going back to 2020, the next minute I figure I’ll stick with 24 and then I regret it (again).

Flew 172 irl out of KPYM - great little airport - a nice KPYM would be great but never seen one :frowning:

A payware KPVD would be awesome also

Agreed FT KBOS is very nice

Dont know why just took off out of KPYM (10:00pm est) as I do a lot and in MSFS 2024 looked awesome no blurry textures - its better to use sim later in the night

Real time weather was spot on which not many have talked much about - seems great to me

Ill be patient as I had some blurry issues but not tonight was great - I think all will be well at some point - give them time to sort things out its great when it works well

No lag all textures and photogrammetry looked perfect and glorious - I have 1gb internet and a RTX 4080 SUPER OC which doesnt hurt on a 48" new Samsung OLED - looks beautiful

And I luv the night environment - I dumped 2020 its was way to dark - I haven’t ran across the sepia look yet in MSFS 2024

I’ve been using this one for a few years now. Not perfect but pretty darned nice, down to having the Pat’s 767 parked on the ramp.

simMarket: RHODE ISLAND TF GREEN INTL AIRPORT MSFS

Still waiting patiently for someone to come along and do Plymouth (MA).

That TF Green is pretty good - the big issue with it (which I don’t think they ever fixed, but there is a patch available on FS.to) is that there are no GA spots at all - only gates. It’s a bit much to have to start your 172 at the gate… I do like that the modeled the skyway to the parking structure.
