Anyone figure out how to force MSFS to use more RAM?

Just boggles the mind that they even contemplated releasing the Xbox with such little RAM…
It’s already under minimum specs and will only get worse as time progresses!

Sadly, now we suffer.

Not really :grinning:

If you lock up 4 seats in an 8-seat car to make it a 4-seat car, do you improve the 4-seat car by that?

Your cars only look identical because the bigger/better/faster one is not allowed to look like it might look like. So it is artificially degraded to the worse looking. Its not a big trick to make things equal this way but progression works the opposite way.

How do you set this up?
cheers

RAM disk cache is a great idea!

There is a good post here about rolling cache and a ram disk setup: RollingCache revisited, essential with aggressive culling, or set "Terrain Pre-Caching" to Ultra - #13 by SvenZ

The link starts at the howto install, read a bit through the thread to see some opinions or other info.

From what I have read using Ram disk isn’t very safe if you was to get a sudden power outtage.
All explained in here
How to Create RAM Disk in Windows 10 [Guide] | Beebom

Using a ramcache software is a much safer way of making more use of your ram.

I think the key to either endeavor is to only store immediately expendable data.

Yeah sorry i forgot that if only using the ramdisk for storing rolling cache data only then there isn’t really any risk at all had convo on that link from scriptkid few posts up.

Obviously size is a concern but I can’t see why you shouldn’t be able to copy C&O files in use to the ramdisk so long as you have the contents backed up to a renamed folder in your storage.

If you have little ram but an RTX3090, you can also create a ramdisk for the rolling cache on the 3090. There has been a lot of unused space since SU05.

Still not utilizing much ram after update 6…I figured the slider for preaching would change this…but it doesn’t. Does anyone understand it? 32 gb of ram 16 of it completely idle and a 3090 doing very much the same. All options maxed on quality - when will they use 4th and 5th gear?

Give yourself an 8 -12 GB ramdisk rolling cache

Indeed. I like it slightly better…

I have 32 GB of DDR4 2133 Mhz over-clocked to 3333 Mhz and also doubled size to 64 GB, but why on MSFS developer box and on RTSS and on Task Manager are we showing RAM use of only 12 GB … why can’t we make better use of this memory ? Note rolling cache set to 30 then 50 then 100 GB …
