Curious about this too. Might be worth making a survey post on FB or Reddit to find out.
The only data provided thus far was from Navigraphs survey last year
Asobo / MS have the numbers but nothing has been released other than Jorg stating a few times on the Q&A’s “we are seeing record numbers of simmers on XBOX”
Well, wouldn’t ANY numbers on Box be record numbers, since there has never been a flight sim on Box before?
SMH
Given they are just coming up on a year since console launch, I believe he would be referring to the month over month numbers in that they continue to grow exponentially rather than trickle, or even dip each month.
The Navigraph survey is not a good source. You can’t have non-marketplace addons on XBox. The only plane that you can have Navigraph charts on XBox now is the HJet. There would have been very little reason for XBox users to do the Navigraph survey.
Agreed, and I didn’t say it was good, stated it was the only source available at this time.
It should be noted, it wasn’t just distributed by Navigraph, it was distributed by a ton (listed in survey) partners who also have releases for XBOX and are part of the Marketplace.
I’m interested in seeing the data I think it’s a growing base of users. Some of those will migrate to PC as well once they get more into the hobby as I have. So I would be a vote in each camp.
I’d say PC is the better experience - however alot to be said about just throwing on a console sitting back on the couch and flying using a controller some eye candy scenery on GA VFR once in a while.
Going console for MSFS was a good move imo. I wouldn’t have invested in a PC without first getting hooked on messing around on the Xbox first via Gamespass.
I now find myself split between both platforms.
I bought the XBOX Series X and a new TV in anticipation of MSFS on XBOX, I think I used it for about 48 hours and ordered a new PC and everything to build a home cockpit.
Just didn’t do it for me on console, felt like I was flying my drone.
There are more people playing MSFS than any flight simulator ever. This is in a big part due to the sim being accessible on consoles and via the cloud as well (which is essentially the console version). I would say more people have tried it on console than on PC but PC users probably sink more play time into it.
There was some discussion in other thread recently that you can read here.
It’s hard to narrow it down to platform, and keep in mind these numbers likely include Gamepass users, but you can get a rough idea of numbers based on the information we have available.
2,000,000 “pilots”, which I would have to assume is unique players (on PC only, as the console version was not yet released), in the first 3 months of launch. Two weeks ago during an interview with HeliSimmer, Jorg said:
“This year, right this moment, I think we have four times the audience then when we launched”.
What exactly that means is up to how you interpret that quote, I suppose. Steamcharts estimates between 500,000 and 1,000,000 owners on Steam, where Gamepass is not available. I can’t find any info that might suggest how the rest of the playerbase is split.
Found this info regarding prerelease market research.
Ahead of its release, data firm Jon Peddie Research said that Microsoft Flight Simulator was going to result in $2.6 billion being spent on PC hardware and various peripherals. Interestingly, this was based on a forecast of 2.27 million copies of the game being sold within three years of launch. Safe to say that Microsoft Flight Simulator will likely reach this sales milestone within a fraction of that timeframe.
Those predictions seem to be based off copies sold so I don’t know how Gamepass plays into that, but the sim seems to be doing much better than anticipated overall.
What is the purpose of this discussion? If it’s to find out who has the biggest, or just another attempt to discriminate against console players, I propose to close this sterile discussion.
Internally we know the percentage breakdown of players on PC, Xbox, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, but I don’t think that’s a number we share publicly. I can say this much, though: there is a sizable enough audience on both PC and console (including Cloud) that we care deeply about our players on both platforms.
I sometimes see posts on this forum where someone will say that Microsoft only cares about Xbox and PC is an afterthought, and then I’ll see another post from a different player not five minutes later saying Microsoft only cares about PC and Xbox players are second-class citizens. The reality is anything but. Microsoft Flight Simulator was designed from the very beginning to look and play great on both platforms. Our goal is for MSFS to be the best possible flight simulation experience regardless of our players’ preferred platform, be it PC, Xbox, or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
If you used an Xbox controller, I can understand why it felt like flying a drone, but it’s pretty immersive with the hotas one.
I agree the hotas is a game changer for control. Adding pedals another..
Just to satisfy curiosity. This is the first flight sim to be developed for both platforms and it’s just interesting to see how it’s teasing out, that’s all, no conspiracy, no hidden agendas.
At the time, I was anticipating on getting the TurtleBeach Velocity One when it launched, I just didn’t make it that far in my journey as there were a plethora of other things missing from the experience for my own personal desire.
It’s good that there are more and more options coming to the console for those who’s needs it suits.
Why not ?
in SQL: select from users where tag=xbox and submits>10 can’t be that difficult ![]()
the number you should consider is the number of xbox game pass subscribers is in excess of 25,000,000…
