Anyone used A Pilot's Life: Chapter 2?

I just checked in the app and all of those airlines are featured, and many more.

Great thank you

Yeah but…that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to fly them right off. I’ve got almost 30 flight hours and desire to fly in US (mostly) but I just acquired my very first US flight. There are many flights available but getting a contract with the airline of your choice…well that’s another matter entirely.

It’s a lot of fun, but be prepared to put in the hours. Like any job I guess, but I do wish the contracts were shorter and the XP was easier to acquire. But I do enjoy it regardless.

Bear in mind, though – almost all of the Aussie airlines are 3-5 star airlines, and therefore won’t be available to you (because they won’t hire you) until you’ve got some experience under your belt with lesser carriers. There are only two one-star airlines that serve Australia – Airnorth and Skytrans – and a couple of cargo charter airlines that don’t exclusively serve Australia. And of those two, Airnorth flies Dash 8s, which aren’t available in the sim yet, and Skytrans flies Embrarer E-Jets, of which only the E190 is currently available in the sim, and it’s not a great version. So you’d almost certainly have to start somewhere else.

Unless you really hit the lottery, as there’s always a fractional chance that a “big-time” airline will hire you anyway. But it’s a REALLY small chance.

Thanks for the further info. I’ve decided to hold off for now but really appreciate your reply.

Just wanted to clarify something that has been mentioned previously in this thread, but may not be fully understood.

In your example you mention not being able to fly certain carriers because the planes in their fleet aren’t available yet in the sim (Dash 8, etc). Well, there is a workaround for that. APL2 doesn’t force the correct plane when you fly, so for example, you could start with a carrier that flies Dash 8’s by purchasing a license in APL2 for the Dash 8 family of planes, hire on with the airline, and when you fly your first scheduled flight, rather than load up a Dash 8 in the sim, you can load some other plane (CRJ for example). APL will allow you to fly the flight and you get full credit even when flying a different plane.

I’ve actually done that on a few 737-700 flights and rather than fly the 737, I’ve flown the biz-class Hondajet instead just because I wanted to get some more time in that jet. It was tough fitting those 140 passengers in the Hondajet, but I managed…

Just FWIW. :+1:

The limitation to that, though, is that you’re stuck with the Dash-8 license, and (in the absence of other licenses) can only take job offers from airlines that fly Dash-8s, which might not be the case for the airlines you really want. A huge carrier like Qantas might fly them (in fact they do), but then you’d only get their short-haul Dash-8 flights on your schedule. If you were looking for longer range flights, you’d have to get (or already have) an A3xx license or a B73x license. And if you didn’t already have one of those, you’d have to fly at least 100 hours or so to earn enough to buy one. So it’s a bit of a Catch-22.

The best thing, I think, is to decide up front what jet you want to fly the most, buy that license, and take what you can get until you get the high-end carrier job of your dreams. In my case, I took the A3xx and the 73x licenses, and got a 3-star job with Westjet in Canada offered as an auto-accept option before I even completed my first schedule. Which is a bit lucky, I guess, but I’m happy with the selection of flights from Westjet, as they run the gamut from 737 flights out of Calgary to 737 flights out of Vancouver… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: (It’s a good selection, though, to be honest. They have a good amount of long, medium, and short-haul routes, so there’s plenty to choose from.)

You have 5000 at start, worth 2 licenses…

Very good points. Thanks.

For me it is a game changer, like on air

Can you join small charter companies and fly small planes like C182 and a C310?

They do have a license available for Cessna’s and with the vast number of carriers they likely would have some available routes but since I don’t fly those in APL2 I don’t have visibility of those companies or routes. It really seems to be setup more toward longer routes with commercial carriers. If you did find shorter charter routes there are likely not many and you would get bored quickly flying the same route.

I suggest you join their discord channel. It is very active and you will likely get a response to your question rather quickly.

anyone knows how many pilots ranks are in the app?

According to the manual, 14 ranks up to Senior Captain Level 10, which would require >290,000 XP. Given each medium haul flight is worth up to 100XP, that’s a hellava lot of flying!

How is everyone getting on with this addon? how are you finding it?

I am really enjoying it.

I started out with CargoJet as I didn’t know the addon supported a cargo based career, then recently switched to Sun Country Airlines flying the 738.

It’s really good! I just fly when I have time, so no pressure trying to hit specific hours etc.

I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now and have been over Algeria and around Fiji with small airlines on 737s.
I like it, it’s kept relatively simple and gives me a “reason” to fly in areas I might never have discovered otherwise.

I just haven’t quite figured out why you can buy airline tickets in the store. If I ever want to fly somewhere regardless of my schedule?

There are different tools for different needs. This one is assigning and rating flights in the airline sector. It’s not for GA flights / VFR / Bush Trips and it’s not an Airline Manager.
Depends on what you are looking for, there are different addons for that.

One note about this excellent addon that might be overlooked, is you can fly for cargo airlines as well. I didn’t know this until I read some random post elsewhere.

Usually you can start at one and work up, but if you are more of a freight / cargo type of pilot then that’s a route you can take too.

Exactly. Purchasing tickets allows you to fly any flight outside of your normal airline schedule. One more option to keep things from getting too stale.

Anyone knows why do i get penalized for having taxi lights on after landing? Am i supposed to navigate taxiways at night without lights? Flying C208 ATM.

You are penalized for not turning the taxi lights off before turning into the gate/parking space. You don’t want to blind your ground crew.
