I hear a lot of good things about X-Plane. MSFS 2024 is a hot mess after 6 months and I am wondering if I should jump ship to X-Plane. I don’t want to waste time on 2 sims.
Does anyone use both?
Has anyone gone from MSFS to X-Plane?
Has anyone ever dumped X-Plane for MSFS?
I know X-Plane has dramatically more accurate flight models and lesser graphics. I am fine with lesser graphics for better modelling.
Only flying in VR with a QPro/rtx4090 using the official Link cable. I mainly fly heli’s around cities like LA with lots of rooftop hopping.
I have msfs 2020 (2024 is still uninstalled waiting for non-beta su2 with 3rd party marketplace), also xp11, xp12, and Aerofly FS2 (with lots of dlc’s and user scenery).
I probably fly msfs 2020 ~75% of the time and love it, esp. since dlss4 came out 2-3 months ago. I fly xp11 ~10%, xp12 ~5%, and FS2 ~10%. I still think that xp12 has a way to go and xp11 has far less AA shimmering and better VR performance. Aerofly FS2 is fun to fly once in a while since it’s kinda nice to be able to get a solid/smooth 90fps, lol!
I hoping that msfs 2024 development (esp. in VR) continues to improve and it ends up being my main flight sim later this year.
I fly both and enjoy flying in FS2020 and X Plane 12. I also own FS2024 and when it is “fixed” and “flyable” then I will give it a shot as well. Right now I guess I like X plane 12 the best for my “flying” but FS2020 comes in a close second. FWIW
How’s Xplane for GA? I mostly fly VFR GA in 2024. I like to enjoy beautiful sceneries, weather conditions/cloud formation and flight dynamics and just chill around the world without any strict Flight Plans.
I’m getting tired of 2024 state and would like to switch over if those side of the Sim are equal if not better.
And what about ATC in Xplane? I got ATC completely disabled and muted in MSFS because it’s such a buggy mess
Seems fine to me for GA. Comes wwith quite a few default GA aircraft. VFR scenery has improved a lot, but still short of FS2020/24.
Generally not too bad. especially compared to FS2020/24 ATC. The interface is nice and MS could really take lessons there on how to do a good interface. It works though which is the main thing. ATC is more often than not correct and many options available to request. Only gripe I have is that it’s sometimes late to descend me to final (or on an approach in an airliner) although not always.
IMO the main difference is with the graphics, which are I should say greatly improved since I last looked in XP11. I’m using the XP12.2.0 beta which has even more polished features. Clouds look better than they previously did, but again not on par with FS2020/24. Autogen buldings are better I think and road traffic is great. I’ve seen shipping, and trains too I think. Many default airports look perfectly acceptable too (think low end payware type quality) which is nice and they are usually filled with (static?) traffic. I don’t feel as compelled to buy 3rd party. The freeware Zebo 737 is fantastic. I also bought an X-Crafts E190 which is great too (and has working VNAV which the FSS one for MSFS does not). All in all though, for purely VFR eye candy FS2020/24 still rules.
But for other things XP is ahead. It’s UI is way more logical to set things up and use IMO.
Taking only 7 seconds to boot in to the sim! & only 30sec to launch a flight are big selling points to me, also more crucially FPS is much more predictable. 40-60FPS @ 4K, dips to 30+ in heavier airliner. No stutters, or pauses though, and very few crashes.
I think they both compliment each other though depending on what you are doing. I’m currently about 50/50 with each right now.

Despite all of this I actually use MSFS 2024 much more.
The perfect match is MSFS 2024 and ILS2 BOS (currently 80% off).
Don’t go overboard with the hardware, keep your expectations in check, and you’ll have a lot of fun and learning, both about flying and history of flight.
