Apple Vision Pro and MSFS

Sorry if this has been mentioned before.

What are your thoughts on using Apple Vision Pro with MSFS 2020 or 2024?

I think its pretty simple. It won’t work.

Similar to PSVR2. These are not PCVR devices.

Mmm…

Thank you for the link.

Not sure that is entirely correct.

But we shall see soon enough.

I guess anything COULD be possible in the tech world, I’m curious where you had heard to the contrary. As I see it, the device is for the MAC and MSFS runs on Windows. Its designed as a standalone AR/VR unit and doesnt connect to a PC. It would be difficult to make it work with MSFS2020 on a PC, but someone could theoretically make a mod???
Is the quality of the device so different than the current PCVR offerings to warrant the huge purchase price and the need for a (kluge mod) like that? not sure.

Saw and article online indicating that they wanted to increase the customer base.

Through my job/work, I have used most AR/VR headsets (including HoloLens) and to date, I have been disappointed by them (especially for flight simulation).

I returned Quest 3 due to display artifacts and poor FS performance.

It will be interesting to see if the Apple price delivers exceptional quality and capability…

As it stands, this will not be possible unless it’s completely jailbroken and some really skilled individual hacks together a custom solution to make it connect to PCs and work with openXR. And even if they did that, it would be a compressed image and not as good as displayport.

Get an Aero or Crystal if you were disappointed with Q3, I don’t like compression either.

If you have already been disappointed with poor FS performance, using different VR headset with even higher resolution will not help with this.

On the topic of if it is possible, perhaps if app like Virtual Desktop is ported to AVP apps store and is able to be used with SteamVR on a PC wirelesly.

Some headsets have a lot more processing power and better displays, hence, better performance (but at a price).

AR/VR use in flight simulation is transformative.

I will continue to look for the best solution for my use.

The HMDs “processing power” has no effect on a PCVR game like MSFS

Does not Quest 3 and similar decode compressed video signal? Headsets with a proper video connection like Reverb G2 display uncompressed video but Q3 needs to decompress it internally. I guess it needs some processing power to do it on the fly. That’s why I stay away from wireless headsets.

Yes it can of course give an advtange in decoding but this is not typically what people mean when they say “performance”. That usually refers to the app itself, which is running on PC

If you go to the trouble of installing ALVR and then building a custom app it does, in fact, work decently well with MSFS.

I had a few flights this morning, and the headset, and the latest build is not even that buggy. Certain things are weird like having to restart the flight twice and not being able to bring up the VR menu, but it does work. But because even a 4090 isn’t enough to render this at native resolution, which is about 8k, and the max encoding is 6k, the Quest 3 via VD looks quite similar resolution, wise, although the colors and contrast are definitely much better in the Apple Vision Pro.

Has any further progress been made with the AVP and MSFS?
