I am trying to learn ils approach on the cessna 172. Sometimes I loose the glide path. I think it is because I fly too high. I have never seen an approach plate until now so trying to work it out.
I cam see the ils frequency and the crs top left which is very helpful.
Am I right in thinking to intercept the glide path I should be at 2900 ft 11 miles out, 2000ft when six miles out?
That’s what it looks like to me. As I said never seen one before. Practicing at my local airport EGAC rumway 04.
Are you trying to manually fly the ILS approach or let your AP do it?
If it’s the latter, you enter the pattern at 2900, hit the APPROACH mode on your AP, and it should take it down to minimums for you without you needing to do anything at all.
I have a video of an ILS approach in the C172 here if you want to watch.
That plate is for an NDB approach, it is not an ILS and does not have any kind of vertical guidance.
At 11 miles you can descend to 2000’
At 6 miles you can descend to 870’
At 2.5 miles you can descend to the MDA which is 630’
Hold 630’ until 0.5 miles, if you do not have landing criteria you must go missed approach at this point.
I want to let the ap do it in low visibility conditions. So I was right in how I interpreted the chart, good. Should be easier now. I was definitely too high. I intend to fly around the world in real weather conditions when I get better at flying. Ils is essential when visibility goes. I will wattchvyur video. Thx for help. Happy New year.
Yes. Om this one you approach on 2000’ on 9 miles out, intercept ils 2000’ 6nm out, and follow the GS down till 212’ (minimums) where you disconnect and land manual
