Q & A #2 World & Weather
51:55 In the October Developer Livestream you mentioned you were working with the Asobo Art Director to improve the scenery using a mix of both the original 2020 aerials (SU15 and earlier) and the 2024 aerials (SU16), picking whichever looked the best of the two. Can you share a status update about this? When can we expect to see this “best of both worlds” solution live in the sim?
53:40 What’s happening with the World Hub? Why the delay? When it comes back, will there be anything new about it?
54:30 Q: What is done regarding weather, and what is being done to make it better?
56:25 Are there plans to improve turbulence modeling?
58:19 Are there plans to update how clouds are formed in different weather patterns, including adding more variety in cloud shapes, such as fluffy or more dense-looking clouds?
60:30 Will the weather radar be improved?
65:00 World Update 21 - Australia (Gaya, Azure Maps): World: 30+ new AOIs + Updates to WU07 AOIs, 6 new hand-crafted airports, 29 new POIs. Activities: 3 discovery flights, 4 precision landings, 1 bush trip (MSFS 2020), 4 challenges.
67:15 Local Legend 24 - CAC Boomerang (iniBuilds)
Q & A #3 Career Mode & Activities
68:00 Where do you prioritize fixes for those of us who want to use Career Mode?
68:55 Do you have any news as to when the remaining 2 certifications in career mode will be available? Many of us have been waiting patiently for them, as that would allow us to obtain the Achievement for obtaining all 20 of them.
70:15 Can we expect the ability to change liveries in Career Mode with Sim Update 5?
70:45 Q: Is there an incentive to split helicopter career and plane career?
71:25 With how detailed the terrain is in MSFS 2024, it feels like bush trips and the aircraft that support them could be a big focus, but we haven’t seen much yet. Is more coming, and who’s currently working on them?
Q & A #4 Aircraft and Avionics
72:45 Will helicopters continue to receive updates and improvements in MSFS 2024?
73:40 Q: Will Local Legends 21 EC135 be coming to 2020?
74:10 Q: Is the H225 orphaned now since HPG have dissolved?
74:35 Are there plans to improve the systems depth of default aircraft?
75:35 What are the contractual obligations of 3rd party developers who create default aircraft for the sim, in addition to Local Legends and Famous Flyers, in terms of supporting those aircraft and continually making them better?
77:10 Q: Please clarify that Hype did not dissolve as a company, they dissolved their partnership.
77:30 Once Local Legends and Famous Flyers have been upgraded to MSFS 2024 standards (i.e. starting with AAU4), will the updated planes be made available for individual sale from the MP outside of having to buy the whole Aviator Edition?
78:50 Are there plans to systematically bring default aircraft across all edition tiers up to these native 2024 simulation standards, rather than leaving many as essentially upgraded 2020 models?
79:50 Q: The 787 has a 2024 native upgraded version but it is yet not available in the Marketplace. Why is this?
80:25 Can you share an update about the Embraer Praetor 600?

120:30 Closing Comments
122:10 Livestream ends.

I have two questions:

  1. Why is weather not being prioritized? It is the number one immersion breaker with what is becoming a pretty fantastic program. Some of the issues: thunderstorms cap out at 20K, visibility is never really what is reported. Why not generate an API for guys like REX and ActiveSky (and I d recommend getting ahold of those guys) who have made their mark being the go to guys for live weather within sim.
  2. What is the status on the Embraer Praetor 600? I very much want to be able to assist with that aircraft, I am typed and current on it and would be happy to assist as a tester.

Not sure if questions posted here will be asked…

  1. SU5 broke FSR3 Frame Generation for multiple monitors, will this be fixed before release?
  2. Will MSFS implement support for FSR4?
  3. So far many bugs and regressions reported in SU5 by users, and acknowledged as “bug-logged” have still not been addressed even after 2 months, what can we expect for these regressions?

Thank you

Will we get wake turbulence on Xbox?

Yikes - basically a non-answer when asked about weather. That’s not a good sign. And the fact that opening up the weather API is listed as “Potentially Planned” on the Wishlist means that they have put absolutely 0 consideration into the weather complaints widespread on this forum and elsewhere. That’s quite a shame.

Seriously they need to open weather api to 3rd developers as soon as possible

Stream went down mid stream…

First off, hats off to the team for going live on stream to address people’s questions. Secondly, it was a bit sad to see silence when I had asked about live weather issues. I d like to lay things out succinctly and easily:

  1. Most people are going for live weather. Its easier, more immsersive, and what most of are after in our sim endeavors, a challenge.
  2. Thunderstorms stop at 18-20K in live weather. This is not realistic.
  3. Visibility in live weather rarely matches accurately with the reported weather. I understand there is metadata being utilized and interpolated to give a 50 percent solution, but why not take it further?
  4. Why not create an API that third party devs can utilize and assist with you?

It’s going up and down. We’ll have to watch it after it’s finished.

It’s curious to see Seb seem to put a lot of emphasis on preset weather. I feel like he may think that there are more users flying with Preset weather than Live Weather? I can’t imagine that to be anywhere near accurate. Live weather is the heart and soul of a flight simulator, outside of the aircraft themselves.

To be honest, I don’t care how many cloud types I can create in a preset weather scenario. I want the sim to reflect what’s going on outside in real life.

Great, turbulence is getting refined. That’s one small aspect of the live weather issues being faced in the sim. Unfortunately, the apparent carefree attitude that these guys have about weather is an indicator that the improvements that we seek are not going to be coming in SU6. I think the community as a whole really needs to push to make it obvious that SU7 needs to be focused on weather, and only weather.

I tuned into today’s live devstream hoping we’d get some good news on live weather and to be frank, was completely disappointed with Asobo’s response. Crickets. Clearly the chat room agreed with my assessment as there were plenty of comments on this. It boggles my mind that live weather isn’t a top focus of the devs.

We don’t need a new ‘visual’ of updrafts… we want better storm depiction, better looking clouds (more realistic clouds – not the gray, volcano type ash clouds), more realistic live weather conditions, snow storms, fog, etc. Just crickets during that section – I signed off.

I also feel like they’re intentionally not addressing this topic – is it due to a signed contract with their weather provider? To even hear one of the devs say, “oh I haven’t seen a bug report on live weather” was just a slap in the face, in my opinion.

Not sure why I was expecting different.

This is precisely why I made the forum post. Apparently the live weather portion didnt get across. But they do read the forums, so now Im going to make this post and start making this very visible. Get it “prioritized” as it were

good luck! Hope you’re successful. It’s been a hot topic in our community for years, so I am not holding my breath, but still crossing my fingers.

Same opinion here. Weather was the one thing that I was looking forward to hearing about in this Dev Stream and it felt like they weren’t even prepared to get questioned about it. Not sure why the complaints are falling on deaf ears.

A very strange take, indeed, considering they’d be able to see how many people have the instrument rating in their flagship career mode, and would thus be exposed to live weather.

Can’t watch the stream at the moment. Any word on the World Hub?

They definitely have the metrics to support it one way or another.

Look, I get it, weather is hard. Humans have been studying weather for centuries and forecasts can still be off. It’s a highly variable science and it’s never going to be perfect.

But the current implementation of weather depiction does such a disservice to what weather should be. And the painful thing is, it used to be better - not just speaking about the current generation of MSFS, but provided by 3rd parties like ActiveSky in P3D/FSX. If Asobo doesn’t want to take on the challenge of improving the weather, let somebody else!!

Great to see them again, but a bit disappointed with Australia once more getting a WU and not some other place like Malaysia, Singapore, Greece….

Kind regards.

Yes - Martial said it requires “new features” to work with MSFS 2024, and they are focussed on fixing existing issues in the sim itself for now. So World Hub is on a list to do, but not for a while.

Thanks for the new topic as maybe the message just isn’t getting through to the Devs. I agree, Seb is focused on the Presets which can in fact look very good but how many are really using Presets?? He also mentioned that there was an issue of “too many thunderstorms” at one point. I think is is confusing the old issue of too much lightning as it was appearing in clear skies and coming from tiny cumulus clouds. There has never been a properly depicted Thunderstorm in live WX (that I can recall). Live WX fell backwards at some point, I am not sure if it was due to Xbox release or not (??) or the intro of Metar smoothing. Live WX depiction in the early days of MSFS 2020 (except for the dark ash clouds) was actually very good! I recall seeing many more different types of clouds and very nice layering/shadows. The cottonball injections we now have is just not up to par IMO at this point in the sim cycle. I rarely if ever see a nice smooth stratus layer which is very common in stable air. We have 3rd party airports where TSA lines and bathrooms are simulated along with aircraft where the fluid temps and rivets are simulated, yet I am seeing tiny, transparent cottonball clouds at FL 350. My guess is any major improvement may not be until the next iteration of MSFS (2028-2030??) but hope this can make it to their list of things to take seriously.
