Some of them are quite tempting when on sale but are they as bad as I am imagining them to be?
MSSCENERY is not worth the money at all.
Deimos had a very bad fame in the early MSFS days, but nowadays this has changed a lot. He provides updates for his planes, and the 3D models for some of them (especially the latest ones) are rather nice.
The complexity of the systems/gauges in his addons is fairly low/basic, and his flight models are not the best in town, but once you are aware of that, you realize that the price is not bad at all. It’s even better when there are sales.
The general consensus is that Mscenery is low effort shovel ware. Their sales tactic appears to be to flood the marketplace with lots of ‘products’ and keep them sale almost constantly so they appear on the front page, the review scores don’t lie though, and they have consistently low scores for a reason. I can only hope msfs 2024 comes with a better marketplace interface / review system so this sort of thing can be better controlled, it makes browsing the marketplace frustrating.
Diemos on the other hand started badly and many wrote them off. This was more likely due to lack of experience than a deliberate effort I think because they’ve been rapidly improving their quality since, their newer releases have quite good visual models, systems fidelity is middling but given the subject matter that’s not surprising, flight modelling looks to be a simpler as well, good for the price though.
The main thing is they’ve been learning and growing as a developer, and stepping up to fix their poor initial efforts, that alone puts them leagues ahead of Mscenery.
Edited to soften the language vs our favourite developer
MScenery is one of the reasons people want to be able to hide certain developers in the marketplace. Do what you will with that information.
No! They are not worth anything
For info, I have the Deimos Su-27 and I’m very pleased with it. Price was cheap, the exterior 3D model is excellent and the virtual cockpit looks great with many clickable stuff (main default MSFS functions such as lights, pitot, nav stuff and all that is required for a cold&dark startup). The plane behavior is also quite close to what I expected, even though I’m sure the numbers are not really correct. But for the price I paid, I’m quite satisfied. Now there is a new Flanker from DC-Design, and I’m sure that one will have a better flight model (DC Design is well known for medium visual quality and systems, but high quality flight models). But the price is not the same…
I also have the Deimos Su-57. I absolutely love the external model. The virtual cockpit is ok, and I guess it’s not easy to model the cockpit of such a classified aircraft anyways. But it looks good overall and flies in a believable maner (with the same remarks as the Su-27).
During the sales, I also bought the Deimos A10. I like it a lot, especially the virtual cockpit in fact. I haven’t had the time to fly it much yet, because I spend my time in faster jets, but I loved what I saw, and I also loved the price
Finally, I had also bought the Mig-29. That one is one of his older models. The exterior model is nice and there are some freeware repaints that make it look spectacular. The virtual cockpit however, is a bit more basic. It looks good, but the 3D quality or textures are not on par with more modern models. It’s ok though, I still enjoy it, and for the price I paid, I don’t feel like I wasted my money at all.
I would add that I use all these planes in VR with no problems at all.
Now I’m hesitating about the F-5 Tiger. There are three models available on the market if I’m not mistaken. After checking videos and screenshots, the DC Design one is surely going to fly better for sure, and it will receive more updates, but the visuals are not convincing me. the Deimos one appears to be my favorite, graphically. I haven’t bought it yet though, but that’s just because I’m not sure I need an F5 in my hangar yet.
Go to Marketplace and filter to show just planes (no liveries etc) and sort by score. Literally the entire bottom of the list is Mscenery, with one exception.
Drones made by mcscenery are pretty cool as wingmen for example the X-47 b. That’s the only positive thing i can say.
Mscenery and Deimos are in completely different levels.
Mscenery is not good at all.
Deimos has some aircraft comparable to DC-designs quality, which is nothing to praise but certainly a lot better than Mscenery: good to average graphics, acceptable flight model and default MSFS commands mapped to some of the plane systems. The A-10 is ok, the Su27 is ok.
Deimos offer decent graphics, especially the exterior. Interior are decent and controls more basic. I do find that they update their products, so that is also a good thing.
God the money you get a good product. Just don’t expect it to compete with some of the big players.
The other company in question I do not purchase from. So, no comment
Does MS just purchase 3d exterior models off of wargame creators/artists online and turn them into MSFS aircraft or something? Mscenery aircraft clearly have Roblox cockpits with somewhat reasonable exterior modeling. You’d think there’d be some iota of finesse inside the aircraft if they did both.
Don’t forget to put Bredok3d next mscenery, utter garbage.
Deimos has got better and better over the last couple of years.
As I understand it, yes. They buy models from publicly available sources, add basic functionality, then resell it.
I don’t fly too realistic. But i like realistic aircraft.
The biggest issue of Deimos aircraft are the non authentic HUDs. All aircraft have the same type of default basic HUDs. Lol.
