Are there any other sim forums to discuss MSFS?

Just wondering if there are any other resources to go to with issues and seek others’ MSFS simmers opinions? Can anyone recommend any pls?

Are there others? Yes.

Would I recommend any of them? Nope.

You may need to use your FULL NAME …

Well, I don’t want to start any drama here against other forums, so I won’t mention any, so let’s focus on the positives here. This forum is very active, and has posters with a wide range of experience, from brand-new simmers to experienced pilots. I love the format here…the tools are great. Want to post an image? Just drop it in the text box with no need to upload it elsewhere first. The forums here are divided into sub-forums that make good sense, although this is the area with the most potential for improvement IMO.

For me, this Forum meets every need I have for the sim. I have no need to find another.

Good to know. Thanks for the info!

I suppose there is a reddit thread. Maybe not as active as this forum, but that is the first thing that comes to mind (works for any topic really, there is a reddit thread for anything  )

AVSIM perhaps, depending where you stand on the real name requirement thing.

I guess it helps with Trolling!

I guess, but personally I find it overly intrusive but looking how this forum has become vs AVSIM, maybe they had a point.

Still, I have faith in the mods here. They tend to handle things fairly well for their limited numbers.

(edit: actually they don’t, some sub forums did require it once upon a time, thanks to @HalberQuacky and @DominiqueKL for pointing it out)

If you have suggestions about the categories (or anything else), feel free to make a post and use the tag forum-feedback. In theory, new posts with that tag should ping me. When we get feedback, I always take a look, run it by the team and try to provide feedback.

Our team has gotten smaller recently due to some real-life changes. The good news is we had applications open last week for new mods, and hope to add some new faces soon.

I’ll do it!

This is a good forum but seriously mods, just give everyone a right to put users to personal ignore list from day one without that Trust level stuff. I mean come on, i gotta start like 100 topics or something to get to level 2, jeez. It really doesn’t hurt anyone if I choose not to see posts from certain users, nor that anyone could use that feature for trolling purposes. So why is it a “trust” issue?

Ideally, I would love to give all users access to the ‘ignore’ function. Unfortunately, the TL2 restriction seems to be hardcoded into Discourse, and we cannot change it, though we have looked into it.

There are other reasons to use trust levels, one of which is report power. The higher a user’s trust level the more strength their flag will have, so we need to be careful how quickly we unlock that power as we don’t want to lead to a situation where new account start coming and auto-hiding posts they don’t like.

For anyone who doesn’t know about Trust Levels, we’ve created this guide for you.

The current requirements for level two are:

  • Open 100 different topics
  • Read 100 posts (could be the first post of each of those 100 topics)
  • Spend 100 minutes reading posts across the forums
  • Receive and Give 10 likes
  • Create 20 posts

It is not a huge requirement, and if I remember correctly these requirements are lower than they were at launch. But it is enough to limit the potential damage some users can cause.

But again if you have any specific suggestions please feel free to open a thread tagged with forum-feedback. In theory, a post with that tag should ping me, and the team can look into it.

Surprised to see there are only 137 users at levels T1 to T3…

Thank you and yes I agree that the trust level system is needed to prevent damage that can be made with flagging for example.

I just think the ignore function should be a bit more accessible than behind a massive one hundred new topics. I considered myself an active member on a different forum for a good decade and I would still struggle to start that many threads even in that long time period and I bet many people would also. Usually it’s just easier to say something on an existing thread because most often an issue has already been raised so there’s no need to start a new one. Bottom line: Trust levels are good but the topic limit to ignore function is just too steep IMO.

I use avsim. Much less venting and complaining there. More interesting posts about tips or interesting news. You don’t need to use your real name. I dont and I’ve been on there 10 years.

Unless they changed it, I don’t think its actually starting 100 threads. I have level 2 and I can guarantee you I haven’t started anywhere close to 100 threads. It reads more to me like youve opened a new thread rather than created one.

This place is the best, variety of simmer age and background and format/feature usability.
No where else is even worth a mention for now.
