Asobo and the latest performance issues and realistic expectations

What I noticed yesterday is the performance will be brilliant in fact it was better than ever.
But when you seem to travel a certain distance from an area, the performance tanks. Yesterday it would go from 46fps down to 18 out of nowhere, usually it recovers but it eventually just became horrible to fly, so I quit out. I was literally going from a more dense area to a less dense area when the performance went terrible. Noticed also that using the extra 330 to any other ga plane would reduce fps by 3 to 5 in the same area.

Plain and simple, they need to Beta test these updates before activating them.

It can’t be that plain, there has been a comment like yours on this forum after every single update that has ever been issued.

Sorry but 2 FPS is unusable, unplayable, useless. Worse than “less enjoyable”. Definitely NOT usable. If Asobo doesn’t think this is a high priority, high severity problem, then I challenge them to dial down their monitors to 2 FPS until a fix is distributed. Then tell us how enjoyable 2 FPS is.

I am not sure how these topics pop up to basically cheerlead the devs and “to tell us to lower our expectations”

My expectations? That the sim delivers on the things they said, not me, are going to be features.

10 years have patience? Some of us might be dead within 10 years.

Live traffic and weather that works. Remember the Flight Aware screenshot?

OK, I will wait then, I have 9.3 years left so I can wait.

Adding scenary when basic things do not work post 7 months?

It’s not that. I had this random stutters last night travelling North up the South West coast of Australia. It was a 200nm trip, ending prematurely with a CTD after takeoff.

During the trip I had the reduced frame rate stutters perhaps 2-3 times.

Well, Google Earth

Also Dangerous Waters, CMANO, Orbiter2016, X-Plane, msfs2004, Flightgear, SailAway, some global tactical-political sims names i can’t recall and bunch of games that aren’t claimed as simulators. There is nothing special about scenery generation by map data ourdays.

It’s a tough one this. On the one hand I really appreciate what Asobo have done in creating a phenomenal piece of software. On the other, the fact that so many people have seen the performance issues does indeed raise the question of how it could have possibly been missed in testing.

I deploy software for a living. The hardest things to diagnose and fix are when just one or two people are having an issue. You spend ages trying to identify what’s different about their environment than everyone else’s. That doesn’t seem to be what happened here.

Here we have a lot of people who have been affected. I think Asobo have done a great job in getting the product out there but I can’t help but wonder how this got through even the most rudimentary QA process.

Having said all that, many have aired their frustrations on here and on Facebook but still the latest performance issues only make it to number 5 on the bug list?:

I need to start looking on the bright side. In a way Asobo has saved me 1500 to 2500 dollars I had planned to spend on new hard ware and peripherals.

I just feel a little disappointed. Now if I were MS I would be angry. A significant amount of money was invested and it is starting to look like by the time Asobo gets this sorted out a large percentage of the new customers/simmers they were hoping for will have long moved on to other things.

I understood that things would take time to mature and was quite content putsing around in VFR until it did knowing that learning a new set of VOR/AP/IFR flying would be problematic until all the bugs were sorted out. Now they have managed to diminish even that. The sim is still flyable for me but the random stutters when there were none before has put me off badly. Especially when I know that there is a build of this sim where it does not happen.

This weekend I will likely being moving my yoke out of the way and putting this sim aside myself. I have been in and out of flight simming for 25 years so I will almost certainly be back. But like I said new customers/simmers most likely wont be back. It just wont be in there mind set.

Its also likely that potential new customers wont even bother trying this sim if they spend even just a little time researching how well its going for others.

i would love it if Asobo would stop making updates and spend at least 3 months fixing bug’s and settings that should have been fixed with the first update..

Yes, but only because they sort by votes and it’s status is ASAP, which is sooner than the bugs above it. So it is actually highest priority.

They have to sort by something… votes still makes the most sense as they use that system, we just have to remember to look at the status in combination.

I like the improvements they’ve made to those graphics, I think it is clearer now.

Unless, IMHO, MS are the ones instructing Asobo to prioritise the Xbox release alongside PC bug fixes and improvements, and that there is a combined deadline of the summer for reasonable stability (which will continue to be painfully subjective) combined with the Xbox release.

They have said in the Q&A’s that many of the optimisations and base code rewrites are continuously ongoing and integrally linked to the summer updates and releases, and that we won’t see them before then.

I also don’t buy the whole Asobo are the naughty school children being reprimanded by MS… they’re not going rogue doing their own thing, they’re fulfilling a collaborative piece of work.

Ok fair enough and good points. It also lends credence to the argument that they released way to early. Starting to look like a PC XBox release should have occurred simultaneously.

I would have had to wait until then but it probably would have prevented a lot of my griping and moaning over the last few months:) I probably would have chalked up the stuttering issues to my own hardware and when they fixed it would have thought they were doing a great job

One of the problem with this forum is that we never know what the ‘2fps’ folks ( really everywhere or just 76T?) have done to it. There has to be a reason why people like myself have absolutely no problems. Common sense tells one that the reason for this MUST lie locally. Its the only differentiating factor between us.

Have I installed a lot of add ons? NONE
Have I downloaded a lot of third party software? NONE.
Have I installed the Simulator on the recommended spec computer? YES.
Have I installed in the default location? YES.
Have I bought only through Market place? YES.
Do I totally ignore all users ‘hints and tips’ to make the sim run better? MOST CERTAINLY YES.
Do I pay any attention or get obsessed by FPS? NO BECAUSE I KNOW FPS ISNT A RELEVANT MEASURE IN THIS SOFTWARE SUITE.
Do I get a smooth flight after THIS latest update in High setting without any stutters or hesitation or interruption? YES EVERYWHERE (except 76T)

is 76T broken? YES. CLEARLY AN ADDITIONAL DIFFERENT PROBLEM.

I am not saying that some people arent experiencing problems which may very well be related to certain brands of graphics cards or processors, who knows.
But some comnents and expectations on this forum are totally over the top.
And far from constructive. Lets just hope most of these folks never buy a new car these days.

Well …looking on the bright side, the initial £100 investment won’t be our major concern by then.

Agreed and have conformed to list completely. But when nothing changes but down loading an update what other assumption can I make other than something is pooched with the update.

My PC was custom made for me. 10900k, 2080 super, 32 megs ram, nvme with plenty of room to spare. No bloatware or other nonsense that comes with off the rack machines. Prior to last update good experience nice and smooth. After update random areas of stutters that seem tied to certain locations and reproducible.

I have been flying basically the same area in south west Florida since installing the sim. I would be quite aware if the this stuttering was present prior to the last update

Now that 76T has confirmed this is not hardware or network related the goalposts have been moved again. Go taxi and fly out of KLAL for example and let us know how it goes.

I can remember that especially Jorg said all the time in their Q&A that they want to build a Flightsimulator for EVERYONE.

I am one of many who have the Performance & Stutter issues.

So please FIX THE PROBLEM ASAP - that EVERYONE can play this Flightsimulator again.

At the Moment absolutly unplayable.

Yeah, I see what you mean.
I must admit, although getting accurate weather and wind readings would be nice, it’s insignificant (for me) compared to the performance problems.
